Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) is a nonprofit educational institution that trains master’s and doctoral students in acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM). OCOM’s academic programs are among the most comprehensive and highly regarded in the country, providing students with a solid foundation in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, therapeutic massage, and qi cultivation, as well as a focus on collaboration between Chinese medicine and Western biomedicine. We are seeking a dependable and flexible Part-Time Library Assistant to support access to the college library and provide additional assistance as directed by the Director of Library Services. Position Summary The Part-Time Library Assistant (0.25) is responsible for performing circulation/information-desk duties, interlibrary loan services, and providing reference support to master’s and doctoral students. The ideal candidate will be interested in ongoing assessment and improvement of library services, and will enjoy face-to-face interactions and being a member of a small, dedicated staff. Essential Functions  Working with and supervising student workers at the circulation desk;  Interacting and assisting patrons with their reference questions in a friendly, attentive manner;  Assisting patrons in requesting and renewing materials in person, by telephone, or by e-mail;  Processing library materials by checking them in and out of the library using an automated scanning system;  Shelving materials using the National Library of Medicine Classification system, and shifting book stacks when they become overly crowded;  Indexing library journals;  Processing Interlibrary loan requests;  Processing new books and materials following library procedures;  Creating subject guides for library website using SubjectsPlus;  Assisting the librarians with special projects as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  General knowledge of library practices;  Experience with library catalogs, medical databases, and office equipment;  Proficiency in Google applications, including Gmail and Google Drive;  Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment;  Ability to multi-task while maintaining a courteous demeanor;  Interest in or experience with Traditional Chinese Medicine and other complementary therapies. Education and Experience  Required: Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program (or an equivalent educational degree), or actively enrolled in an ALA-accredited program.  Preferred: Experience working in an academic library  Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited library or information management program.

Compensation This part-time (12 hrs/week) position pays $13-14/hr based on education and experience. Scheduled hours will include two weekday evening shifts (3pm - 7pm) and Saturday afternoons (10am - 2pm). The ideal candidate will also be available for on-call hours as needed. To Apply 1.
