There will be no school on Friday, November 11th due to Remembrance Day Holiday. Monday, November 14th will be Day 5 on our schedule.

School photos were previously scheduled to take place on October 17th and 18th. However, due to a conflict with our Family of Schools District Close Out Day, the new dates are: Thursday, October 27th (K-3), and Friday, October 28th (Grades 4-6).

Jamarama Day We will be supporting the Janeway by participating in Jamarama Day on Friday, October 21st here at MQP! Students and staff will be invited to wear their PJs to school and are encouraged to donate $2. All donations will be forwarded to the Janeway. We look forward to an awesome day!

Allergies We have a number of students and staff at MQP with severe life threatening allergies to: all fish products, all nut products, peanuts including peanut butter and all peanut butter products, kiwi, and eggs. Nutella products will not be permitted. Also, since it is very difficult to distinguish between peanut butter and Wow /Soy butter, the NL English School District does not permit any food items containing these ingredients in schools. Please exercise extreme caution when providing snacks/ lunches for your children when coming to school. It will be very important for us to work together to help create a safe learning environment for all of our students.

Our Thanksgiving Day Assemblies will take place on Thursday, October 6th at 10:15amfor students in K-3 and at 12:30pm for students in grades 4, 5 and 6. Thank you to Ms. Cumbie, our grade two students and their teachers for taking on this initiative. Again this year we will be participating in the Annual Metro Bus/Vocm Cares Food Drive. Therefore, we are asking students who are interested to donate a non perishable food item. All donations will be accepted at the classroom level until Wednesday, October 5th. Thank you for your support!

Congratulations Students Congratulations to our students on their recent accomplishments: Robyn Kenny, Claire O’Brien, Claire Winsor, Emma Power and Sophie McClean for winning Bronze with the St. John’s White Soccer team in the U12 Girls at the Wiscombe 4th Annual Invitational tournament in Marystown; Darcy Cribb, Matteo Rotondi and Luca Rotondi for travelling to Nova Scotia to represent our Province in the Atlantics with their AAA Mosquito Baseball Team; and to Karsen Best for travelling to Gander to represent our Province in the Atlantics with his AA Mosquito Baseball Team and for finishing 3rd. Great job students, we are very proud of your accomplishments!

Chapters Night MQP invites parents/guardians to our evening at Chapters on Tuesday, November 15th from 7:00pm-9:00pm. This will be a great time to do your Christmas shopping as 20% of all book sales, magazines, toys and games will go to our school to purchase additional books for our library. All you need is a voucher to present to the cashier at Chapters on this night when you pay. Vouchers will be distributed at a later date. Details as to which choir will be performing will be communicated at a later date. This is a great way for our school community to come together to get in the spirit of Christmas. Hope to see you there.

Birthday Invitations We have been inundated with classroom teacher requests to pass out birthday invitations. While this is not the role of our teachers, they have agreed to pass out invitations as long as these guidelines are adhered to: no names are to be attached to the invitations for confidentiality reasons; and they must be for the entire class, or all girls/all boys. Also, teachers will not be going to other classes to pass out invitations to individual students. Thank you for your cooperation.

Unscheduled School Closures Unscheduled school closures are beyond our control and unfortunately may occur at any time. Therefore, please ensure that the section on the student data form specifically for unscheduled school closures is completed accurately. A reminder that it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that alternate arrangements are made for your children in the event of an unscheduled school closure. Let’s work together to ensure the safety of our children.

Fall Dress We are approaching the time of the year when we can expect a drop in temperatures and a change in weather conditions. We will continue to go outside on a daily basis during lunch time when the weather and conditions permit us to do so. It will be important for our children to dress appropriately with warm jackets, hats and mittens when coming to school.

Student Leadership Team Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to be part of the MQP Student Leadership Team for this school year: Claire Winsor, Daniel Simmons, Hailey Whelan, Sophie MacLean, Elizabeth Yetman, Ty Freda, Emma Power, Jack Moores, Jade Gop, Daniel Dumaresque Correa, Reed Jeffery, and Sophia Wheeler. We look forward to working with these students in this capacity.

MQP Chess Club MQP Chess Club will take place at our school during lunch time again this year. Registration forms have been distributed to students who have expressed an interest in joining the club. Registration forms are to be returned by Friday, Tuesday, October 4th. Chess will begin on Tuesday, October 18th.

MQP APP We are doing well with getting information out through our MQP School App. Thank you to all who have already downloaded it! This app allows you to easily access information about our school. It enables us to send important updates directly to your phone in the event of unscheduled closures or emergencies.

Hits FM Morning Show Congratulations to Robyn Kenny on being selected as a Back to School Superstar with Hits FM on Friday, September 16th! Brad, Brian and Keleigh broadcasted the morning show right here on the MQP Parking lot with Robyn being the special guest! Thank you to Hits FM for their interest in our school and congratulations to Robyn on an outstanding job!

Halloween Activities We will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 31st. Classroom activities will take place in the afternoon session at which time costumes may be worn. We will not permit students to bring along accessories that consist of sharp or pointed objects. Please be mindful of our students with allergies when sending in treats/snacks!

Happy Halloween Halloween is on Monday, October 31st. Students will be busy going door to door trick or treating and we encourage them to be very careful of all traffic, be sure to look both ways before crossing any street, and to please check their treats when they get home to ensure that they are safe to eat! It will be important for all students to be accompanied by an adult when going out for Halloween. This can be a fun time of the year, but please exercise extreme caution. We wish everyone a very Safe and Happy Halloween!
