Listening to Learners Students of all ages have volunteered to be Leading Learners, taking on responsibility for developing new ideas in teaching and learning in subjects across the curriculum. Two Leading Learners represent each subject at the school council meetings, chaired by the senior students. Thank you for your support. Diolch yn fawr.

Good practice in the Humanities

New friendships: our first half term in Year 7 Year 7 students have had a brilliant start to learning here at Elfed High School. We are grateful to the primary schools and to families for supporting the Smooth Move to Elfed activities. This programme is designed to help new students feel happy and confident as they move from Primary to Secondary School.

A warm welcome to Open Evening Families from Buckley and all over Flintshire enjoyed the Learning Passport challenge at this year’s Open Evening. Staff and students provided the visitors with a diverse and exciting range of activities, providing a taste of learning at Elfed High School.

A treat for Year 7 students and their families

Working together to become a Dementia Friendly School

Families were rewarded with a ‘Welcome Evening’ at the end of the first month at Elfed High School. Tutors and the Pastoral Team spent time introducing themselves and getting to know everyone. The Dining Room was transformed, with plenty of pizza and pasta for everyone, served by Year 11 waiters and waitresses.

All students in Year 7 and Year 8 became Dementia Friends following training from the Alzheimer’s Society. This is a project we will develop further, with opportunities for training for teachers and parents, along with outreach work in our community.

Creativity through written word Theatr Clwyd provided a writing workshop to help students to build on their love of writing.

Creativity and confidence Elfed Youth Theatre’s production of ‘Misunderstanding Mr Wolf’ was a huge success. Students entertained their audience with humour, suspense and some excellent performing skills.

Excellent effort! Ymdrech ardderchog! The Cross Country was very muddy but this did not deter students from across the whole of Key Stage 3 from making a great effort to complete the course in good time. Well done to all who took part. Da iawn.

Planning for the future Families of students in Key Stage 4 took advantage of the Elfed Careers Fair to speak to employers and advisers from further education regarding their possible next steps.

Macmillan Coffee Morning There was superb support for the Base Leading Learners’ Cake Sale. Every crumb was sold, with impressive income for this good cause. All profits were donated to the Macmillan appeal.

Is your child eligible for free school meals? The high cost of raising a young family means that everyone could do with some help. Free school meals save you time and money and provide reassurance that your children are eating a healthy, balanced lunch every day.
