October 25, 2016 Dear Representative, On behalf of Research!America, the nation's largest nonprofit alliance working to accelerate medical progress and strengthen our nation's public health system, I am writing to urge you to sign the congressional sign-on letter that Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), David McKinley (RW.Va.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), and Peter King (R-N.Y.) have circulated calling on appropriators to provide the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with no less than $34 billion in a final FY 2017 spending bill. Because of the vision and commitment of the 114th Congress, the FY16 Omnibus Appropriations bill increased the NIH budget by 6% or $2 billion. If our nation builds on that pivotal accomplishment, we can defeat illnesses that rob Americans of health, hope, and time. It is crucial to grow annual appropriations for NIH significantly in order to restore lost purchasing power and assure that NIH funding can be successfully leveraged by universities and small businesses across the country to find cures faster. Research!America believes that increasing the budget for NIH to at least $34 billion in FY17 is merited by the magnitude of the health challenge, the cost of inaction, and the multi-fold return on faster medical progress, and we hope you will consider lending your name in support this funding. The deadline for signing the letter is Friday, October 28, and the staff contacts are Casey Katims with Rep. DelBene ([email protected]), Margie Almanza with Rep. McKinley ([email protected]), Ziky Ababiya with Rep. Van Hollen ([email protected]), and Jamie Matese with Rep. King ([email protected]). We thank you and your staff for your dedication and hard work. Sincerely,

Mary Woolley President and CEO Research!America
