Ohio County High School Class Officer Constitution Article I: Purpose The purpose of the Ohio County High School class officers shall be to: develop attitudes of and practice in good citizenship and government; promote working relations throughout the entire school; improve student-teacher relationships; improve school morale; assist in the management of the school; provide a forum for student expression; provide orderly direction of school activities; and promote the general welfare of the school. Article II: Membership To run for a class office, a student must have shown good behavior with no disciplinary action having resulted in suspension or placement in ALP or ISAP. Said behavior shall be retroactive to the beginning of the school year. A student must have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average* and receive two teacher recommendations and fifty student signatures of students in their respective class. Registration and signatures will start in mid-August. * The 2.5 cumulative GPA means the GPA at the end of the semester prior to the election. Article III: Duties of Officers A. The President shall preside at all meetings of the class, suggest to the sponsors the need for special meetings when necessary, appoint all committees, represent the class on certain public occasions, and assume each other duties as are generally associated with this office. B. The Vice President shall perform the duties of the president in his/her absence and perform such other duties as are generally associated with this office. C. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of all class meetings, handle all official correspondence, keep a file of all official class correspondence, report class news, including activities and achievements to the school and local newspapers. D. The Treasurer shall have charge of all class funds, both the collecting of and disbursement of, and hall maintain an accurate record of all finances pertaining to the class. E. The Junior and Senior Representatives to the Board of Education shall represent the high school at the monthly board meetings. Article IV: Campaigns The campaigns and elections will take place during the month of August following the beginning of school. Registration and signups will be in early to mid-August. There shall be one week of campaigning to begin the week of the elections and will be under the direction and supervision of class sponsors. At the end of the campaigning week, senior candidates only may make speeches to the senior class. Candidates can have a campaign manager to direct the campaign of their candidate. Campaign managers and candidates for office shall not duplicate themselves. Elections will take place at the end of August.

Article V: Voting Procedures Voting shall be by either secret ballot in a special voting booth set up by the County Clerk’s office or by electronic ballots created by the school. Voting eligibility will be limited to students of the current freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior grade classification. Voting will take place at the end of August at designated times and areas. Campaigning will not be allowed in the area where voting will take place. The top vote getter will receive the office. In case of a tie, there will be a run-off between the candidates that tied. Article VI: Removal from Office A class officer must be in good behavior at all times and set an example for the school. A class officer will be expelled from the class office he/she holds if he/she is placed in ALP or ISAP. Any case may be reviewed by the OCHS administration and the SBDM Council on extenuating circumstances. If a student wishes to run for a class office, he/she must have a 2.5 cumulative overall GPA (semester average). Once elected, he/she must maintain the 2.5 cumulative GPA each semester. If the GPA drops at the end of the semester, the student is removed from office. Article VII: Vacancies If and when a vacancy occurs (with the exception of any president office), the candidate who received the second highest number of votes for that office shall be installed for the remainder of that term of office. If a president member vacancy occurs, that position will be filled by the vice president and the student who placed second for vice president assumes the position of vice president of that class. Article VIII: Amendments These guidelines shall supersede any pre-existing regulations, policies, rules or guidelines that pertain to the class officer election process for Ohio County High School. This Constitution is subject to change by review and amending on an annual basis. This Constitution shall be made available to each student of each class at Ohio County High School. Article IX: Timetable Early to mid-August: Register and obtain signatures Mid- August: Campaigns Late August: Elections held
