ONLINE COURSE ACCESSIBILITY CHECKLIST 1. M ATERIALS AND M EDIA ¨ Are videos, media, and PowerPoints embedded into the LMS? n Embedding videos, media, and PowerPoints helps manage the limited file storage capacity. It also helps participants with limited bandwidth by ensuring that they do not need to link out to materials to view them. ¨ Are the course elements designed for multimodal viewing/access to accommodate variances in learning and physical abilities? n Materials should be presented in numerous ways, as appropriate, including but not limited to: providing “alt” tag descriptions in the event images won’t or can’t load; providing scripts for video and audio files, and providing all material in downloadable course packets. 2. A CTIVITIES AND A SSIGNMENTS ¨ Can participants complete activities and assignments without additional equipment other than their computer or mobile device? n Diversity of online learners extends to their financial and technological resources. Therefore, course providers should design course activities and assignments to limit the mandatory use of any online tool or technological device that may not be available in all areas, or to all participants. These include but are not limited to microphones, cameras, videos, and applications. ¨ Can participants satisfactorily submit assignments and complete assessments using no other program but the LMS? n Participants may not have access to popular word processing or presentation applications to complete their work, including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. ¨ Are participants given the opportunity to submit assignments in more than one way? n Assignments that require document submission should be designed to include the option to write responses using freeform text boxes. This increases accessibility for participants who cannot use word processing software for any reason. 3. O FFLINE M ATERIALS ¨ Does each content page have a downloadable, accessible PDF handout in the Module Packet? n Every content page, assignment, and discussion should have an offline-ready version of the course content available to participants, and presented as a PDF in the packet. This is so that participants with infrequent access to the internet can interact with course materials offline. ¨ Are all handouts compiled into a packet, and available on each Module’s introduction page? n The packet is a compilation of every handout, presentation, assignment, and discussion prompt the participant will see in that week’s module. Quizzes do not need to be included in this packet, to keep students from having early access to quiz questions. © 2018 by FHI 360.
