Open Doors – Who are we and what do we do? Open Doors is an international ministry serving persecuted Christians and churches worldwide. We supply Bibles, leadership training, literacy programmes, livelihood support and advocacy services. We also seek to mobilise the church in the around the world not only to serve Christians living under religious persecution but also to learn from them what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. Open Doors originated in 1955, when a young Dutchman known as ‘Brother Andrew’ started smuggling Bibles across the Iron Curtain to the persecuted church. Now, some sixty years later, Open Doors serves millions of persecuted Christians in over 50 countries – including some of the most dangerous places in the world by:    

Providing Bibles and Christian literature - writing, translating, printing and distributing a wide range of items in various languages, including Children's Bibles, MP3 Bibles and discipleship literature; Providing training for leadership and discipleship - training in effective church leadership and discipling others, all in the context of helping believers grow in their faith and understanding, and stand strong through the storm of persecution; Sustaining lives, supporting livelihoods - bringing practical support to families, to widows, to orphans, to the victims of violence or natural disaster; Raising awareness, educating and speaking out in advocacy – mobilising the Body of Christ and seeking positive policy change through private diplomacy and public campaigning.

These Core Values are: We are part of the Body of Christ; a people to people, people Revelation 3:2: ‘Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die' - we are more valued by our physical presence than the ten best sermons we could bring. We stand with our brothers and sisters in their suffering. We are Persecuted Church driven Jesus met the people at their point of need. We meet those suffering for their love of Jesus and seek how we can support them in their time of need, whether through receiving a bible, being present to them, providing discipleship training or practical support. We are people of the Bible We are dedicated to getting the Word of God into the hands of His suffering people, helping them to know the Lord more fully through His Word and living out our own lives enriched by His Word. We are people of prayer We recognise that we are in a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:10-18) and we see the power of prayer being a powerful weapon in responding to and meeting the needs of others. We are called to pray in all circumstances. We live and work by faith We believe the door has always been open for the Gospel, because the door has never been closed (Matthew 28:19) and we take one step at a time as we follow His leading. We are devoted to Jesus Christ with his commission We want to show the world that there is a different lifestyle available for those who follow in Jesus Christ and how we can strengthen those who are persecuted so they can witness to others. We are Motivated solely for the glory of God We want our only motivation for what we are called to do to bring glory to God. We are not against any other faith – only for Jesus.

Statement of Faith Everyone who works for Open Doors is required to agree, abide by and to sign the Statement of Faith. We have adopted as the Statement of Faith of Open Doors the Apostolic Creed: We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN We accept the revelation of the triune God given in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and confess the historical faith of the Gospel therein set forth. They here assert doctrines which they regard as crucial to the understanding of the faith, and which should issue in mutual love, practical Christian service and evangelistic concern. 1.

The units of God, eternally consisting of three Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

2.

The sovereignty and grace of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgement.

3.

The divine inspiration of Holy Scripture and its consequent entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

4.

The universal sinfulness and guilt of fallen man, making him subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.

5.

The substitutionary sacrifice and shed blood of the incarnate Son of God as the sole and all-sufficient ground of redemption from the guilt and power of sin and from its eternal consequences.

6.

The justification of the sinner solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ crucified and risen from the dead.

7.

The illumination, regeneration, indwelling and sanctifying work of God the Holy Spirit.

8.

The priesthood of all believers, who form the universal Church, the Body of which Christ is the Head and which is committed by His command to the proclamation of the Gospel throughout the world.

9.

The expectation of the personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ, in power and glory.

10. The resurrection both of those who are being saved to eternal life and those who are being condemned to eternal punishment.
