EDITORIAL Is there a more unusual and important week than the 24 Hours of Le Mans’s? A week which, and everyone will agree on that, is thought of right from the moment the preceding edition ends. It’s nothing new or original, but it’s so true. After so many years, 20 in total, of competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one could say that ORECA finally stands as an expert of this legendary race. But the truth is that every single year the historical race evolves a little. We think we know it but in fact it is actually impossible to truly know it. And we are starting to understand that we will probably never have a flawless understanding of that challenge. A new parameter gets discovered while another one reappears and surprises us. We just hope to simply manage most of those parameters, aiming for the best. This unknown part, this surprise – whether good or not – that we expect here and there, that’s surely what makes Le Mans a myth. There is a mix of impatience and apprehension: we want to find out what that legendary track holds for us. As is often the case, all of ORECA’s departments are involved in this edition. Le Mans is a good symbol of ORECA’s daily work. Competition, race car manufacturing, product sale and distribution, events activities. Once a year, all the different teams gather in one single location. With their own specific roles, projects and ambitions. However all share one common objective: be up to the challenge given to them… and live that legendary competition to the fullest. Because if there is one thing we know: we have a unique opportunity to be a part of it. Have a good week at the 24 Hours! Hugues de Chaunac

ORECA 05 LM P2 « Shake up conventions »

Narrower. Lighter. Safer. More digital. With 4.000 new parts (out of 5.000 items in total), the brand new prototype designed by ORECA enters a new dimension.

12

« Narrower  »

The new ORECA 05 differs in its size. 1900mm wide, it is the narrowest of all new generation LM P2 cars – which are 2000mm wide. The design bureau has made that audacious choice in order to meet the future 2017 rules and regulations. That decision will also have an impact on performances, being finer the car’s top speed should increase by a couple of km/h. Front and rear tracks have been reduced compared to the ORECA 03. However the car is longer (by 40mm) and its wheelbase too (by 80mm). With a closed-cockpit, the ORECA 05 is also higher (by 20mm).

14

« Lighter » «Light is right». Those are Colin Chapman’s words and ORECA Technology’s engineers went by the book! Weight is the issue and ORECA’s engineers have tried to get rid of as much of it as possible. Since all LM P2 must weigh 900kg minimum, this parameter became their main goal in designing the car. Particular attention was paid to mass distribution. The ORECA 05 sets itself apart from its rivals and stands as an endurance featherweight. It is expected to be agile and efficient.

16

« Safer »

Safety has always been one of the priorities and the design bureau has followed that rule again. Actually it event went beyond it! As engineers have integrated zylon anti-intrusion panels: though they are not imposed by the rules and regulations, those panels are already used in LM P1. Similarly, the car also comprises a rear crash box that has been certified via a test. Here too that technology is not a mandatory requirement.

18

« More digital » For the design of its new prototype, ORECA, Computational Fluid Dynamics specialist, has opted for a digital wind tunnel as opposed to a traditional wind tunnel working with scale models. Throughout the years, this expertise was developed and refined to finally obtain an excellent correlation between simulations and results on the ground.

Actually for this project a true digital platform was implemented in order to bring the design bureau with the sales and manufacturer departments as well as the workshop. It significantly increased quality and efficiency. With those three departments working together, in relation with each other, ORECA Technology entered a new era.

20

ORECA 05 LM P2

« As seen by Christophe Guibbal » Design Bureau Director

The first stage. « A clear objective: to ensure the ORECA 03’s succession. As in all projects carried out by ORECA, a series of technical specifications supported their approach. Those included quantifiable objectives to meet in relation to different fields: mechanics, aerodynamics, ergonomy, etc. Those requirements also included our customer-teams’ feedback, with comments on the operating. Our aim was obviously to improve all of those elements. »

22

« Differentiation » « The way the ORECA 05 looks like was not a priority, though it is obviously very different from the ORECA 03R. The car’s appearance is the result of technical choices as well as rules and regulations. However we’ve tried to optimize everything. The car has been improved in terms of performance, a natural objective, but it was also designed so that teams and drivers could easily operate it. Actually, coming up with a larger range of settings was a very challenging goal for our engineers. The philosophy in terms of aerodynamics probably corresponds a little more to Le Mans »

24

« Approach » « The ORECA 05 is firmly looking towards 2017 when LM P2 rules and regulations will change. Our design bureau wanted to take teams’ budgetary issues into account, allowing them to optimize their investment by extending it from a two-year period to potentially six years. Meaning that the project would then spread over 2015/2020 rather than 2015/2017 only. Though the car will obviously have to evolve, the aim is to allow the teams not to modify everything once the new rules and regulations are introduced. »

26

« Baby LM P1 »

« One could say that on many levels we have gone up a couple of steps. However, in terms of finish quality, we have actually entered a new world. We have perfectly met the cost-cap constraint, while keeping operating costs effective and predictable, and aiming for the quality of an LM P1. Therefore in that respect the ORECA 05 is a baby LM P1. And we are very proud to have created it according to those requirements. »

28

« On our way to Le Mans » «  The first on-track test sessions have gone well, they al lowed to correlate simulation data with what happens on the track. No major technical problem was encountered which means that we had the opportunity to really make the most of our development phase before making a final decision about the regulatory configuration, prior to the regulatory process. The fact that we were already competitive in our very early races, even fighting for victory at times, was a true first satisfaction. Winning at Imola was a great reward as well as the best source of motivation for what is to come next. »

Reliable. Experienced. Competitive. And ready to fight. Following on a facelift twelve months ago, the ORECA 03R appears young despites the years and still very efficient. It has become one of LM P2’s safe bets. It is also one of the most successful cars with no less than 23 wins. A true outsider in LM P2. Whether ORECA 03 or ORECA 03R, this chassis is one of the leaders in the LM P2 class. It has won everything from the outset. Everything apart from the 24 Hours of Le Mans and despite pole positions and fastest laps posted in La Sarthe. Pitting against young generation prototypes, this car has many assets to show off.

ORECA 03R LM P2 « A winner’s DNA »

The ORECA 03R, the first version of which was launched in 2011, is a very experienced car. Le Mans holds no secrets for it. Or very few.

36

Alpine A450b LM P2 « A safe bet »

Designed and manufactured by ORECA, the Alpine A450 marked the return of the firm from Dieppe to the competition in 2013, with one win in Hungary symbolizing the brand’s comeback. That was the first on-track success for Alpine in 35 years. Its younger sister the A450b, which was also the result of a technical partnership between ORECA and Alpine, took over in 2014 gleaning new European titles as well as a third place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With a perfect knowledge of the car, of the 24 Hours of Le Mans’s specificities and of all the necessary ingredients for a winning recipe in Endurance, ‘Les Bleus’ will also be able to count on many fans in this 2015 edition. Enough to expect an excellent result and, why not, to add another line to the history.

38

REBELLION R-One LM P1

« 363 days – from a blank sheet ... to the track »

Designed and manufactured by ORECA Technology for REBELLION Racing, the REBELLION R-One has been developed for the new ACO rules and regulations applied since 2014. For its second race only, the prototype had not gone unnoticed finishing 4th at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, having faced the greatest manufacturers such as Audi, Toyota and Porsche. The car then went onto winning the FIA Trophy for private teams only in the World Endurance Championship.

The REBELLION R-One got designed in record time: 363 days from the first pencil stroke to the first roll-out! That huge challenge was conducted with much success, first with a Toyota V8. This year, the prototype will have a closed cockpit and will be powered by a V6 bi-turbo AER which required a new engine integration.

40

ORECA’s other prototypes

42

ORECA 01 LM P1 « The oldest »

ORECA 03’s, ORECA 03R’s and ORECA 05’s older sister. The ORECA 01 first took to the track in April 2009, before tackling the ELMS and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with its now famous Mondrian inspired livery. Twice in the Top 5 and best private car of the twice around the clock in La Sarthe – 5th in 2009, 4th in 2010 behind a one-two-three finish by Audi – this car has also won in Silverstone, with Nicolas Lapierre and Olivier Panis behind the wheel. Powered by a V10 AIM engine, the prototype has reached the podium several times, in Europe and Asia, as well as a fifth place in the Petit Le Mans, against Audi and Peugeot, in front of Acura.

44

ORECA-FLM09 « American way of life »

Initially racing as part of a one-make series – the Formula Le Mans in 2009 – the ORECA-FLM09 has quickly proved its qualities and potential in endurance. In Europe and Asia, but also in the United States where it has been living the American dream since 2010. Now the “favorite” car of many teams, the ORECA-FLM09 makes up the single-make class LM PC which is always lively and appreciated in the TUDOR United SportsCar Challenge. Its resistance has allowed it to clinch some fantastic results in the overall rankings, including podiums and many Top 10 in classic races such as the 12 Hours of Sebring or the 24 Hours of Daytona. With an attractive cost/performance ratio, the ORECA-FLM09 is also a good car to start with, in terms of prototypes for gentlemen drivers, one of the cars that allow young drivers to come to fame. About thirty chassis have been assembled since 2009 as the car is certified and homologated until late 2016.

ORECA Group

60

Originally a racing team, over the past 40 years ORECA has grown and developed its activities to finally cover all motorsport sectors. With around 200 employees working across three locations – Le Castellet, Magny-Cours and Hong-Kong – the Group has made international development one of its priorities. The opening of a subsidiary in the United States is about to be confirmed.

Unique enterprise, The Motorsport Company today comprises four departments. ORECA Racing, via the Team ORECA or as a representative of the greatest brands, has won in all disciplines. ORECA Store is today the leader in sales of equipment and accessories, with 35.000 products for motorsport fans and enthusiasts. Organising events and running championships, ORECA Events has been supporting and advising many different brands regarding their events programmes for over 20 years. Finally, ORECA Technology is home of a leading engine department in Europe as well as a design bureau and state-ofthe-art facilities which have allowed the Group to also become a race car manufacturer.

62

ORECA Technology

« Not only a racecar manufacturer » The 24 Hours of Le Mans proves it, ORECA has become a true race car manufacturer. But that’s not it. Design bureau, project management, engine production and development: the Technology department is now able to carry out both in-house and external projects simultaneously, including for the greatest brands.

64

« State-of-the-art tools and know-how » Based in Signes, next to the Paul Ricard Circuit, ORECA Technology’s R&D department is now supported by a manufacturing service and workshops which allow a global management of projects. Alongside a close relationship with loyal and recognised partners, engineering expertise is complete – CAO, structural calculations, simulations and CFD – just like manufacturing know-how – sheet metalwork, processing, composite, electricity.

Additionally, ORECA Technology has also acquired the most recent advanced tools such as an autoclave oven which guarantee quality and reactivity as well as a digitally-controlled cutting table. Moreover, the metrology service allows a follow-up that is adapted to competition requirements…and more. The department has grown and developed by diversifying itself. Besides automotive in general, our teams’ work also quite often reaches beyond motorsport and automotive in general, touching on the aviation and nautical fields as well as the security and safety sectors.

66

« A leading engine department »

Strategically based in Magny-Cours, next to the Formula 1 circuit, ORECA’s engine department spreads over 3.600m², 1.800m² of which are workshops with 4 test beds (one is asynchronous), a high-end distribution test bed and also a cylinder head wind tunnel. Gathering around fifty employees, the engine department has developed through the years and has now become a reference.

Able to design, manufacture and develop an engine from scratch, it offers its expertise to the most important manufacturers, in all disciplines, whether for on-track racing, in rally, rally-raid and rallycross. At Le Mans, the engine department is in charge of preparing the Nissan V8 which powers both the ORECA 05 and ORECA 03R. That ensures reliability and performance for customer-teams, as there is a particularly strong link with the chassis production based in Signes.

68

ORECA Racing « Still Le Mans Addict »

Under its own name or alongside the greatest manufacturers, ORECA will be on the starting grid of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the 21st time. This passionate relationship continues year after year, oscillating between wins and disappointments. While one ambition remains unchanged: becoming a part of Le Mans’s history.

70

« Bringing operational support to TOYOTA Racing » Since late 2011 and as part of TOYOTA’s Le Mans project, ORECA has been closely collaborating with TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG). That means bringing operational support via engineers and mechanics. Thus ORECA has been actively participating in development sessions as well as in all races, since the beginning of the programme, offering its Endurance expertise and experience to the Japanese manufacturer.

This relationship with the team TOYOTA Racing is marked by many successes. The TS030 Hybrid won three times during the first year (2012) – equipped with a unique and new technology around a supercapacitor – and also a second place in the 24 Hours (2013). The TS040 Hybrid has then gleaned the 2014 Drivers & Teams World titles with five wins in eight races, as well as a podium and a pole at Le Mans!

72

« A long history with Le Mans » 20 times already ORECA members have experienced the legendary motorsport challenge. 20 times Hugues de Chaunac has sat on that low wall or stood in the pits. Twenty times the story has been different. With its unknowns and mishaps. With its ambitions and satisfactions. Sometimes its disenchantments. However twenty years later, motivation has not gone away. It is about returning to try one day to tame something untameable.

It all started in 1977 at Le Mans, when ORECA entered an Alpine A442. The team was a single-seater expert at the time, notching up successes. The adventure ended a couple of minutes and a fire later. At the time, Hugues de Chaunac, though a little shaken up, knew that he would be back. And that was the case in 1981 with a BMW M1. He felt the same nightmare repeating again when seeing Bernard Darniche stopping after a couple of laps only. Fortunately, that was a “marketing move” from the French driver and ORECA crossed the finish line for the first time. Then followed ORECA’s entry in the shadow of Mazda in 1991, for a supporting role which is often little-known but nonetheless important. And for the first – and unique – time in history, a Japanese manufacturer won in La Sarthe!

74

« A long history with Le Mans » In charge of the Viper project, ORECA enters a new dimension half-way through the 1990s. Having participated twice, and learnt a lot, 1998 was marked by the first of three wins back to back. A resounding success as it was met after a long fight against the Porsche 911 GT2. The team was then ready to enter and tackle the main category. It would be the case with a Reynard chassis (2000) and then a Dallara (2001-2002).

But ORECA then thought bigger and wished for more. With that in mind, the team returns with an Audi R8 in 2005. A suspension wishbone would cause the adventure to be cut short and that time Hugues de Chaunac did think of giving up, as he admitted later on. But ORECA’s relationship with Le Mans was too important, therefore the idea of quitting did not last and the break was not very long indeed. After the Saleen (2007), the team entered the leading LM P1 category again. Great emotions succeed one another: a race against the clock in Mondrian style (2008), two “first private team” titles (2009, 2010), the fastest lap posted during the race, a crazy moment with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP (2010). ORECA is on a roller-coaster at Le Mans (2011, 2012) and there is now one unique objective: taste an overall victory with TOYOTA following on two podiums (2013, 2014).

76

« Prize list » 350 wins Successful in all disciplines: Circuit (Single-seater, Endurance, GT, Supertouring), Rally, Rallycross, Rallyraid, On-ice racing 49 titles 7 World Champion titles 6 European Champion titles Other titles in many countries: France, Spain, Germany, United States 170 drivers 79 different models entered 12 Hours of Sebring Winner (2011) (only French team to have won with a French car and crew) 24 Hours of Daytona Winner (2000) (only French team) 3 times 24 Hours of Le Mans GT Winner (1998, 1999 & 2000). 24 Hours of Le Mans Winner (1991) (bringing operational support to Mazda) Rally des Pharaons Winner (1990) 7 times Monaco F3 Grand Prix Winner

ORECA Store

« Major player in the distribution of parts and equipment » ORECA Store is leader in multi-platform sales. 35.000 products are constantly available on the website www.oreca-store.com, via 30.000 copies of the catalogue, but also in two shops and at many events. ORECA Store supplies over 50 countries each year with products from more than 250 different makes, also exclusively including Turn One and Red Spec, two brands dedicated to drivers’ and workshops’ equipment. Growing internationally, ORECA Store’s website has now been updated with an English version, www.oreca-store.eu. A blog was also set up, allowing a greater proximity with fans, through news, advising and exchanging. Intending to work for and alongside motorsport drivers, ORECA Store continues to support many of them, at the highest level, such as Patrick Pilet and Stéphane Sarrazin, Olivier Panis in GT, as well as young driver Jules Gounon in the Porsche Carrera Cup France.

80

« A strong involvement in Le Mans » Just like the sporting programme, ORECA Store is directly involved at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, through the design of TOYOTA Racing’s official merchandising. Indeed, the TOYOTA Hybrid Racing collection has been designed by ORECA Store, in collaboration with TOYOTA Motorspor GmbH. It will be available in the official shop, at the heart of TOYOTA fans village, as well as at a VIP corner located in the Japanese manufacturer’s hospitality, at the ‘raccordement’. That collection will also be available all year round on the online store, shop.toyotahybridracing.com, with over 150 products available and distributed in over 50 countries, which equals a total of 20.000 sales. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is also an opportunity for ORECA Store to reaffirm its first mission which is to stand close to motorsport professionals and support them. Therefore, a dedicated team will be on the ground all week.

82

ORECA Events

« The motorsport events agency » Each year, ORECA Events organises over 150 events articulated around 3 main categories:

Automotive events : advising, supporting and creating events that are dedicated to motorsport’s main stakeholders (manufacturers, equipment suppliers,...) Corporate Events : devising turnkey business solutions relying on motorsport to support brand communication Overall management : providing all types of events with a technical and logistical know-how. Amongst ORECA Events’s specific expertise are: roadshow, network activation and stimulation, seminars and conventions, incentive, product launch, championship organisation.

84

« TOYOTA fans’ village » Working alongside TOYOTA Motor Europe at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, ORECA Events carries out the management and organisation of the Japanese brand’s Public Relations via the VIP area set up at the ‘raccordement’. Over 1.000 guests are expected throughout the whole week of competition. ORECA Events is also in charge of a new structure with activities for the general public to enjoy. It will include driving simulators, car exhibitions, a pit-stop challenge and a Photo Booth. Thanks to the TOYOTA Hybrid Chance Wheel, each visitor will have a chance to win a prize offered by the brand.

86

ORECA internationally « Asian subsidiary »

International development is a cornerstone of ORECA’s expansion. With projects already taking place in Eastern and Southern Europe, two other areas are also mainly targeted: Asia and Northern America. It has already been four years since ORECA Asia was first established. Based in Hong-Kong, the branch’s current growth is significant. In charge of Michelin’s incentive programme in Asia-Oceania, ORECA Asia has also started developing strong links with local motorsport stakeholders. ORECA’s partnership with Chinese team KCMG as well as involvement in the supplying and the distribution of parts and accessories stand as evidence of that mutual interest.

88

« A new office in the United States » Beginning with sporting successes in the American Le Mans Series in Daytona and Sebring, ORECA’s fantastic story in the United States continues with the opening of a new office in North Carolina, in order to keep developing the group’s activities. This new branch fits in the line of ORECA’s regular presence on the continent. Since 2010, the Prototype Challenge’s cars have been manufactured by ORECA, with a good sporting success for this class. With the new ORECA 05, the group now wishes to further settle its manufacturing activity there. Moreover, ORECA Store will also establish its business there, as a parts and accessories retailer.
