What is Outdoor advertising?

What is Outdoor advertising? We see it everywhere, whether we’re driving through town or even waiting at the bus stop. Outdoor advertising can take the form of huge billboards or smaller posters - some of them are traditional paper displays, but in more recent times, digital, moving advertisements have come to the fore to help catch the eye of passers by. Unlike television and radio advertisements, outdoor advertising is always on - day or night, it’s visible to those who pass it, and that’s why it’s important to choose correctly when opting for an out of home advertising campaign.

Bus Shelter

Which outdoor format is best for me?

Think how many people sit at bus stops throughout the day; that’s a lot of people, especially in busy areas. Bus shelter advertisements are a great way to reach plenty of people when they’re not at home. The adverts themselves are perfectly sized for those sitting nearby, and you can choose between digital and print media to deliver your message appropriately. Billboards By far the most popular type of advertising, billboards adorn walls and stand tall on the sides of roads and highways, often featuring unmissable advertisements that stick in the minds of passers by for days. With print and digital billboards available, there’s a solution to match any advertising requirement. Supermarkets

The innovations in outdoor advertising mean there are now more options than ever for people who are looking for some outdoor promotion. It can be difficult to choose which format you need, but worry not: we’ve got some tips for you.

Marketing your product or service to people when they’re doing their weekly shop can be a very effective process. These standalone screens will grab the attention of people as they stroll past with their trolleys - if you’re advertising a product that is sold in the supermarket at which you’re advertising, an event taking place nearby or you’re trying to promote the supermarket itself, this type of promotion is perfect. Petrol Stations Queuing at a petrol station to pay for your fuel is hardly the most exciting experience. Our digital screens can be positioned at the till to capture the attention of drivers who are waiting to be served. Petrol stations have few

distractions, too, so your advertisement will likely catch their eye easily. Shopping Malls If somebody’s in a shopping centre, the chances are they’re looking to spend money. What better place to advertise than a shopping mall? Whether you’re promoting a product on sale in the centre, or you’re wanting to boost the reach of your store, using shopping centre advertising screens is the perfect way to go about it. Phone Boxes While the use of phone boxes themselves may be decreasing, they are still commonplace in town centres around the country. This means they can serve as perfect canvases for your advertising campaign - a small advert on a phone box will be seen by countless people as they walk or drive past. Pubs & Bars These advertising panels, also known as ‘Socialite screens’ are designed to draw the attention of people enjoying a pint or a drink. These are particularly effective because generally, people in a pub or bar are relaxed, which makes them more receptive to your message. Furthermore, people often idly gaze around when waiting at the bar or waiting for a friend - give them something to gaze at.

Visability

As you can probably tell from the above section, there are a number of places that you can place your advert in order to make it as effective as possible - that is to say, the better the placement, the more people are going to take notice and the better your results will be. There are a number of things to take into account when deciding where to position your advertisement:

Make sure you don’t position your advert too high up, as it can be difficult to read, or people may just miss it altogether. Placing your billboard by the side of a road in a clear space can be very effective in broadcasting your message to drivers. If you’re looking to attract people who are on foot, then think about town centres, where many people walk through on a daily basis. Universal qualities that billboards should have is that they should be well designed, easy to read and positioned in a place where they can be seen clearly.

Demographic Think about who you’re advertising to. If you’re promoting a product aimed at teenagers, for example, there is no use putting your billboard in Canary Wharf - that’s not exactly a popular hangout for young people! Place your billboard near schools, colleges and universities if you want to catch the eye of younger consumers. For the older markets, town centres and roads into busy places are ideal sites for your advert.

Neighbouring Billboards If you’re very confident in the quality of your advert, you may feel tempted to place your billboard near an advertisement from a rival company. This could pay off, but if you distance yourself from your rivals and advertise in a different area, you will be tapping into a market that they won’t be reaching.

How long will my campaign last?

How long will my campaign last? The standard campaign length for traditional advertising sites is two weeks. Whether you’re posting on a billboard or the side of a bus, it will last for a 14 day ‘cycle’ which is determined by the calendar of the advertising company. The two week cycle isn’t concrete, though - if you feel you need more time or you don’t need the entire 14 days, you can use digital advertising to promote your product or service for as long or short as necessary. Digital campaigns only need to be sent electronically to the desired site - no need for putting the poster up panel by panel or taking it down in the same way.

What can I expect during and after my campaign?

What can I expect during and after my campaign? Once your campaign is launched, we will keep in touch with you regarding further services and options. A particularly effective option that has served companies well in the past is creating a landing page or website to run alongside your campaign, and display the URL on the billboard or advertisement.
