Smoke Outlook for 9/14 - 9/15 NW California Natchez Fire Issued at: 2018-09-14 08:30 PDT Outlook for NW California

Daily AQI Forecast for Sep 14, 2018

Special Statement This air quality forecast predicts potential AQI for particulate matter levels, not for ozone. Fire Due to more map corrections, infrared mapping last night for the Natchez fire did not show a net growth in acres (33,137 total), but we do know that smoke production continued at about the same level yesterday as the day before, possibly a bit more, again mostly on the south and southwest sides of the fire. A small trough off the coast to our west changed transport winds to a more southerly direction, and that pattern will continue today and tomorrow. Fire activity and smoke production today and tomorrow will likely increase as a result. Smoke Yesterday, we had overall good/moderate air quality throughout the forecast area. Impacts from the Natchez were minimal and mostly localized to Happy Camp during the day, and possibly to the Ft. Jones/Scott Valley area in the evening and overnight. Some moderate evening/overnight smoke from Delta fire came in from the south as well, affecting Yreka and Hornbrook. Gasquet on the west side is continues to have some moderate early morning smoke/haze, while Eureka remains clear. Under this southerly transport pattern, impacts today and tomorrow are likely to remain overall good/moderate, unless Delta fire becomes more active.
