relies on single-threaded performance, as demonstrated in our Gimp image editing test, where the Yoyotech’s score of 65,782 is only around 3,000 points behind the Scan and its Core i7 chip. It can’t compete with Core i7 silicon in our heavily multi-threaded Handbrake video encoding test, but it still has enough power for most computing tasks, and its overall result of 126,506 is still admirable. The Samsung 960 Evo SSD is solid too, delivering read and write speeds of 2,712MB/sec and 1,843MB/sec respectively. The Yoyotech didn’t have any heat or noise problems either. The respective CPU and GPU delta Ts of 48°C and 43°C are no cause for concern, and the BlackBox stayed very quiet, even during tough gaming benchmarks. It’s one of the quietest gaming machines we’ve seen recently.
Conclusion There’s a lot to like about this focused and well-built machine. The overclocked GTX 1070 is an excellent gaming card, and it’s bolstered by a solid processor, motherboard and SSD. It’s cool and quiet, too, which is something we can’t always say about machines with beefier components.

This rig can’t quite handle the rigours of 4K gaming, and more expensive rigs will offer more power alongside more intricate builds and cooling systems. If they’re too pricey or you’re not fussed about those extra bits, though, the BlackBox SP is an excellent mid-range PC. MIKE JENNINGS
