Preschool Storytime Ages 4 - 7 years Wednesdays; 6:30pm This 30-45 minute structured storytime is designed specifically for children ages four to seven years only. Parents may enjoy the storytime with their child or stay in the Children’s Room while their child attends by themselves. Super STEAM Storytime Ages 4 - 7 years Mondays, September 18, October 16, November 20, December 18; 6:30pm Kick start your week with STEAM! Join us the third Monday of each month for a special storytime experience that incorporates elements of STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Registration is not required for Super STEAM Storytime. Trick or Treat at the Library Ages 2 - 6 years Monday, October 30; 4pm or 6:30pm OR Tuesday, October 31; 4pm or 6:30pm Come in costume for some Halloween fun! Barks and Books Kindergarten - 5th grade Saturdays, September 2 & 16, October 7 & 21, November 4 & 18, December 2 & 16; 11am Practice reading aloud to a specially trained therapy dog who loves to hear a good story. This program is made possible by the generous time and effort of the Pasadena Humane Society. My Weird School Book Party Ages 6 - 9 years Saturday, September 2; 2:30pm It’s back to My Weird School! We invite fans of Dan Gutman’s My Weird School book series to join us for some zany fun. Go bananas with loony activities, wacky crafts, and even weirder trivia! Middle School Advisory Group Meeting 6th - 8th grade Friday, September 15; 3:30pm Attend this special Middle School Advisory Group meeting to help Library staff plan fun events and activities for middle schoolers for the new school year. Fall Kid’s Camp Holly Avenue Elementary School 360 West Duarte Road Dates: Monday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 22 Time: 8am-6pm Cost: $27 per child per day #F17-1026 Monday, November 20 #F17-1027 Tuesday, November 21 #F17-1028 Wednesday, November 22 This camp is a safe, supervised, kid-friendly program held at Holly Avenue Elementary School. Each day is filled with fun group activities including crafts, board games, movies and snacks. Sign your child up for one day or all three. Camp is available to children ages 5-11. Please be sure to pack your child a lunch, a morning and afternoon snack will be provided to all participants.

Elementary School Programs Free Supervised Elementary Playground August 21, 2017 through June 1, 2018 Monday - Friday, end of school day-4:30pm All Arcadia Unified School District Elementary Schools A free drop-in program for youth in grades 1-5. School year playgrounds offer a variety of organized recreation activities led by Recreation Leaders. Board games, outdoor games and crafts are a few of the activities provided. Playgrounds will be closed on AUSD holidays. Participants are required to attend the program for a minimum of one hour, at least three days each week. Space is limited and participants must meet the previously states requirement to remain in the program.Children must be signed out by a parent/adult. Staff supervision and activities are only provided until 4:30pm, a late fee will be charged for supervision if your child is picked up after 4:30pm. Back to School Bonanza Trick or Treat Night Fantastic Fall Fun Snow Flake Night

Kid’s Night Out provides kids a night of fun and play so mom and dad can enjoy an evening out or a quiet evening at home. Recreation Staff and Volunteens offer dinner, themed games, movies, snacks, and supervision for children ages four and above. Accommodations cannot be made for special dietary needs. Pre-registration is mandatory and participants must be potty trained.

The league is organized to provide a fun, non-competitive, learning experience, players not only learn the sport but also develop mentally, athletically, and socially while becoming well rounded individuals. League registration is limited and will take place online beginning Monday, August 14 and go through Friday, September 1, 2017 or until filled. All ability levels are encouraged to participate. The league begins September 11 and lasts approximately 7 - 9 weeks depending on how many registered teams are in each division. Transportation to and from the games is the responsibility of the participant.

For students that have either attained all three mastery levels in the Beginning Academy or are coming in with proper form on the major tennis strokes. The focus is on building stroke dependability so that students are able to rally with proper form. This is a high energy, dynamic, challenging tennis program designed to bring students to a level where they have the tools to start playing matches. There are five mastery levels in this group, much like the belt system in martial arts that students will be tested on for progress. Beginners over the age of 13 should start in this group. The league is organized to provide a fun, non-competitive, learning experience, players not only learn the sport but also develop mentally, athletically, and socially while becoming well rounded individuals. League registration is limited and will take place online beginning Monday, August 14 and go through Friday, September 1, 2017 or until filled. All ability levels are encouraged to participate. The league begins September 11 and lasts approximately 7 - 9 weeks depending on how many registered teams are in each division. Transportation to and from the games is the responsibility of the participant.

Re-Zone is a free and supervised program available to youth in grades 6-8. The center is supervised by Recreation Leaders and allows youth to have a safe place to hang out with friends. Re-Zone provides a monthly flyer of activities and special events happening at the center. There is no charge for the program but fees will apply for some special events. Re-Zone is a drop-in program and is closed on AUSD holidays and minimum days. Participants are not required to sign in or out. Transportation to or from Re-Zone is the responsibility of the participant.

The Arcadia Recreation Department has a Volunteen program open to youth 13 to 18. Teens will obtain valuable work experience and gain confidence working with and in the community. Interested teens for the school year of 2017-2018 need to fill out an application which is due no later than 4pm on Friday, September 1, 2017. Applications will be available online at www.ArcadiaCA.gov and in the Recreation Office beginning Monday, July 31. Selected applicants will be invited to an oral interview which will be scheduled afterschool the week of September 11. The cover letter attached to the application explains the details and requirements of the application process. This is a very popular program and space is limited. Those candidates selected to continue in the process of joining the program will be notified via email following their interview. The number of candidates selected will be determined based on the number of available spots needing to be filled.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND REFUND POLICY * To ensure successful classes or activities, please register early. * Pre-registration for all classes is encouraged. Registration must be processed by the Recreation Department office staff before the first class meeting. * If class is full when your check is received, your check will be returned to you by mail and your name will be placed on a waiting list. * Refunds will be assessed a $10 service charge. No cash or credit card refunds. Checks will be issued about two weeks following the refund request. Refunds and transfers must be requested before the second meeting of a class. Any material or food fees paid to the instructor are nonrefundable. No refunds on day of merit badge or trips/excursions. * The City reserves the right to cancel a class if minimum enrollment is not met. * Activities canceled by the department will be given automatic refunds, without a service charge. * If an outdoor class is canceled due to rain, it will be made up at the end of the session.

* Parents may not attend children’s classes after the first meeting of the class series. Parents are expected to pick up their children promptly at the end of the class time. Children will only be released to their parent or guardian.
