HAWTHORN PARISH WOMEN’S NIGHT Tuesday 20 March, 7.30pm Immaculate Conception Church, 345 Burwood Road, Hawthorn Three very generous women share their life and faith stories at this year’s Women’s Night: Rachel McLoughlin, Elizabeth Fogarty and Margaret Anderson. Rachel McLoughlin hails from Norwood parish in South Australia. She is a qualified physiotherapist and spiritual director who, a year ago, took her first vows as a sister of the IBVM order. She is currently studying her Masters in Theology and volunteers as a physiotherapist at the Cabrini Asylum Seeker and Refugee Health Hub. Elizabeth Fogarty is a long-time parishioner of Hawthorn. She has a large extended family and until recently worked with her husband in his orthopaedic practice. Margaret Anderson has five children and also has a large extended family. She is a trained special education teacher and a committed Collingwood supporter. In her own words, Margaret’s life is all about her family, her faith and her football club. In addition to the three guest speakers, Georgina Docherty will inspire with her beautiful vocals. A glass of bubbly and supper will follow. Tuesday 20 March, 7.30pm Club Italia, 128–152 Furlong Road, St Albans There have been lots of negative media reports about South Sudanese young people, particularly in the Western suburbs, as well as some negative comments made by federal politicians. Some young people have behaved in unacceptable ways. For this first Western Spirituality in the Pub session this year, speakers on the topic will be Tut Gordon Tut and Daniel Ajak, who will open up conversation that may well broaden insights and perceptions and perhaps balance some of the things we may have seen and read. Tut was born in Ethiopia after his family left South Sudan due to civil war and currently works as a lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid. Daniel currently works as a criminal defence lawyer at Papa Hughes Lawyers. He was also born in Ethiopia after his parents fled to Kenya. APRIL RE-OPENING OF ST JOSEPH’S, COLLINGWOOD NEW DATE: Saturday 7 April, 10.30am St Joseph’s, 46 Otter Street, Collingwood Just before Easter in 2007, St Joseph’s church in Collingwood was totally destroyed by fire. Almost ten years later, the blessing of both the Archdiocese of Melbourne and the City of Yarra was given to rebuild St Joseph’s. The church is now almost complete and will be officially re-opened on the amended date of 7 April, with Mass commencing at 10.30am. The church is now able to accommodate approximately 300 people. PALLOTTINE CAMINO 2018 Saturday 21 to Monday 23 April St Christopher’s, Syndal to Pallotti College, Millgrove This annual pilgrimage walk connects two sites of Pallottine spirituality and mission and is a special time to meditate on your experience of God in nature while walking approximately 65 kilometres over three days. Pilgrims will have Mass on each of the three days of the walk, which commences at St Christopher’s parish church on the Saturday and concludes at Pallotti College on the Monday. The walk travels along Dandenong Creek, the Warburton Trail and the O’Shannassy Aqueduct in Millgrove. Pilgrims will be transported at the end of the days’ walks on the Saturday and Sunday to comfortable overnight accommodations at Pallotti College. WALKING WITH GOD IN NATURE: CAPE SCHANCK WALKING PRAYER DAY Saturday 28 April, 9:45–4pm Cape Schanck Car Park, 420 Cape Schanck Road, Cape Schanck The Prayer Day Walk is in two loops. In the morning, the walk will head along the clifftops from the Cape Schanck carpark out to the unspoiled gem of Bushrangers Bay and return. CATHOLIC VOCATIONS OFFICE: 2018 CAMINO IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL Monday 25 June (arrive Madrid) to Friday 20 July (depart Lisbon) In 2018, Catholic Vocations Melbourne is excited to offer Catholic young men of Melbourne the opportunity to walk the ancient pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago to the tomb of St James the Apostle. The 500km trek on foot will provide pilgrims with the opportunity to step out of their ordinary lives and to dedicate some time to asking some of life’s big questions. Each day pilgrims will have the opportunity for Mass, confession, spiritual direction and prayer. After reaching Santiago de Compostela, the pilgrimage will conclude with two days of prayer and relaxation at the beautiful shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. Your Pilgrimage Chaplains are Fr Nicholas Pearce and Fr Joel Peart from the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Archbishop Denis Hart fully supports this Camino. ‘As the Church in Australia enters into the Year of Youth and Vocations, I am pleased to support this initiative, and encourage the young men of Melbourne to take up the challenge and join the Camino 2018 team.’ The Pilgrimage is four weeks in total and departs after the last week of university semester one exams, returning in time for week one, semester two. Costs: Flights Pilgrims will organise their own flights, arriving in Madrid and departing Lisbon (allow approx. $2000). Daily pilgrimage costs Pilgrims should budget for $50AUD for each day of walking on pilgrimage (allow approx. $950). This budget is based on the experience of previous pilgrims and includes simple accommodation and a mixture of basic pilgrim meals and self-catering. Pre- and post-accommodation/meals/transfers One night Madrid, two nights Santiago, two nights Fatima. Transfers from Madrid to Burgos, Santiago to Fatima and Fatima to Lisbon. ABORIGINAL STATIONS OF THE CROSS PRAYER CARDS NOW AVAILABLE Late last year a set of beautifully painted Aboriginal Stations of the Cross was unveiled at Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Victoria (ACMV).
