2 Registration

Inclement Weather

All courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For most classes students must be 16 and over, some exceptions noted. Some courses have limited enrollment, so register early. Phone-in registrations are accepted with either Master Card or Visa only. Registration closes one week prior to the Monday before adult courses begin and Thursday prior to the Monday when student courses begin. A $5 late fee is added after these times. Registration for ABE/GED/adult ESL classes is ongoing. Confirmations are not sent to enrollees. Notifications will be made if course times change, dates change or the course is canceled due to insufficient enrollment. Courses canceled due to inclement weather, school closing, etc. will be rescheduled.

Parkway parents will receive an Alert/Now recorded phone message when school is closed due to weather or unforeseen emergencies. If the closing occurs late, at night, or very early morning, only home telephone numbers will be called. If school closes during the day, parents’ cell and work numbers will be called, as well. Parents may also find information on school closings by checking the following sources: Parkway’s website at http://www.pkwy.k12.mo.us. If school is closed, a message will appear in a yellow banner on the top of the front page of the website; otherwise, school is in session as scheduled. Parents may also call (314) 415-SNOW, or listen to local media outlets.

Fees Resident fees, for those living in the Parkway School District, are listed as the first cost under the course number. Non-resident fees are listed as the second cost. All textbooks, course materials, and some course supplies are included in the registration fee. Checks should be made payable to Parkway Community Education. Any returned check will be assessed a $20 fee. Parkway Community Education office is now accepting credit cards, Master Card or Visa only.

Cancellations/Changes The Community Education Department reserves the right to withdraw any offering if an insufficient number of registrations are received. With few exceptions, 10 is the minimum enrollment required. You will be notified if the course is canceled.

Refunds Refunds will be made if a class is canceled due to limited enrollment or if a class is filled to capacity before the registration form was received. No refunds will be made after the day registrations close and before the first day of class unless the class has a wait list. A processing fee of $7 will be deducted for all classes not canceled by Parkway. NO refunds will be made after the first day of class.

Course Locations The building and room number for courses are included under each course listing. If the room is listed as TBA, students will be advised of the room number upon arrival at the building on the first day of class.

Golden Key Cards Parkway citizens 65 and older and Parkway retirees can obtain a Golden Key Card, valid for one Parkway Community School class per semester (some exceptions noted) and any Parkway regular season home athletic event (not MSHAA sponsored activities). Cards may be obtained by calling (314) 415-7004/-7005. No phone registrations accepted unless paying for supply fees. Holders of Golden Key cards are required to pay for any books, supplies, equipment, etc.

The class is based off the principals taught out of the Microsoft Office 2010 Simplified book by Kate Shoup. Book is not required for the class but, is used as a reference tool. Students must have a strong basic knowledge of how to use a computer keyboard and mouse. Creative Memories, Digital Image Organization and More! 4312 M W. Middle Comp. Lab B. Hoerner 7-9 p.m. 1/23 1 s. $17 $19 Digital cameras have become the way to capture your memories, yet many images are left on the memory card or the hard drive; not in a viewer friendly format. In this workshop, you will learn to organize, categorize, and personalize your digital images via use of a PC friendly software that also allows for video and audio file storage. You will leave knowing how to store digital images for later retrieval and use and be familiar with multiple editing options. Printing options will be discussed. The software you will be learning will be available for purchase at the class. Introduction to Photoshop 5069 TH C. High TBA B.Goyer 7-9 p.m. 1/12 10 s. $96 $100 Learn how to get around in the program, add selected images to other pictures, change color to black and white or sepia, and learn how to touch up and restore old photographs. You will need to be familiar with the computer and using a mouse. You will need access to a digital camera and/or scanned pictures that are in jpg format. Students will need to have access to some version of Photoshop in order to practice what is taught in class. Students will also need to bring a flash drive to class. $5 supply fee included in registration. No class 1/26, and 3/22.

Cooking For all of the following cooking classes please wear long pants and close toe shoes. Bring an apron to wear. Crazy About Ferments NEW 4630 T SW Middle Home Ec. J. Campbell 7-9 p.m. 2/21 1 s. $17 $19 With New Year, starting lets get healthy! We will be doing preserved lemons, sauerkraut, lacto-fermented root vegetables, a couple of sprouted nuts. I will bring in a fermented drink either Kombucha (tea) or Kefir (bubbly water) for you to try. Please bring glass jars (canning jars work great for this) to finish fermenting at home. $8 supply fee included in registration. Sourdough Breads NEW 4631 T SW Middle Home Ec. J. Campbell 7-9 p.m 3/13 1 s. $15 $17 Always wanted to know how to make sourdough breads? This is the class for you! We will be making rolls (much quicker, due to time) in class. We will go into how to keep our “mother” alive. Please bring a bowl with a lid or a glass far with a lid to take home your own “mother” to start making sourdough loafs yourself! $5 supply fee included in registration.

Are you too overwhelmed to even know where to start? If so, this is the class for you. Learn an easy system to organize your backlog of photos and keep them safe. Bring approximately 1000 photos (already removed from albums) to class. You will leave with an organizational box which holds up to 1200 photos. $41 supply fee included in registration includes organizational materials needed to get your photographs organized. A system for organizing memorabilia will also be discussed. Parkway Golden Key does not apply.

Quick Albums are like magic. It’s as if tiny scrapbooking elves with great color sense and sense of style sneak in and do the hard part for you! You can create your own message to that special someone for a gift – just add photos and some heartfelt messages. Learn how to perform adult and child CPR for victims ages one year through adulthood, how to help with a choking emergency, and how to use an automated external defibrillator to shock the heart. Receive a 2 year certification from the American Heart Association. (optional infant module for babies newborn – 1st b-day can be added with advance notice).

Students will learn about the causes, stages and look into some of the behavioral and mood problems associated with the disease. The class will cover the topic of living and caring for someone with dementia. CPR For Family and Friends 5067 TH C. High TBA Safety Basics 6-8:30 p.m. 3/1 1 s. $35 $37 Update your CPR skills and learn how to perform adult, child, and infant CPR in this hands on course and how to help all ages who are choking. A participation card is awarded upon completion of the course. This class is designed for the lay rescuer and is not a certifying or credentialing course. Appropriate for adults and children 12 years and up including parents, grandparents, babysitters and scouts.

School Closing Day Camp Hours & Prices (no gymnastics experience required) Children ages 5 - 12 will experience the thrill of gymnastics, sports obstacle courses, creative arts and crafts, games, movies and much more at this fun, active, self-esteem building day camp. Day camp equipment includes in-ground trampolines, foam pits, cargo climbing net and ropes, tumbling floors, 40 foot trampoline, boys and girls’ gymnastic equipment and more! This is a fun and affordable preschool experience for children who are 30 months or older by July 31 and miss the preschool cut-off. Fun Fridays are for children who turn 3 years old from Feb. 1 through July 31. Parents drop off their children for this two-hour program that blends developmentally appropriate curriculum with opportunitites for social growth.
