INTRODUCTION This annual publication provides basic information on national * parliaments/legislatures . The information includes their composition, President/Speaker, Secretary General/Clerk and complete address (including e-mail and website, where applicable). Male officers are indicated by "(M)", female by "(F)". The "Last renewal" indicates the date of election for chambers that are directly or indirectly elected, and the date of appointment for appointed chambers. The information contained in this Directory may change rapidly and frequently. Every effort has been made to cross-check the data with the parliaments concerned in order to ensure that accurate information is provided on the 188 national parliaments that existed in the world's sovereign States on 10 January 2011. At the time of going to print, 154 of those parliaments were Members of the IPU. The information contained in the Directory can also be found in the IPU’s PARLINE (Parliaments-on-line) database, from which the material has been extracted. PARLINE is accessible on the IPU’s website (www.ipu.org/parline) and is continuously updated. *** On trouvera dans la présente publication annuelle des informations de base * sur les législatures/parlements nationaux , notamment composition, nom du Président et du Secrétaire général et coordonnées (y compris adresse électronique et site internet, le cas échéant). Under the new Constitution, which came into effect in January 2010, the statutory term of the Congress of the Republic remains four years. However, those members elected in 2010 will serve a six-year term in order to synchronize presidential, parliamentary and local elections in 2016. The new Constitution, adopted in August 2010, provides for a bicameral parliament comprising an enlarged 350-member National Assembly and a new 68-member Senate, yet to be established. The elections to both chambers are expected by March 2013. Following the constitutional amendments of February 2009, elections to the House of Representatives, which were due on 27 April 2009, have been postponed to 27 April 2011. As a consequence, the House of Representatives approved exceptionally the extension of its current term by two years, until the new elections, without modifying the term of the House as indicated in the Constitution. Suite aux amendements apportés à la Constitution en février 2009, l'élection de la Chambre des représentants qui devait se tenir le 27 avril 2009 a été reportée au 27 avril 2011. La Chambre des représentants a par conséquent approuvé, à titre exceptionnel, la prorogation de son mandat jusqu'à la tenue des élections suivantes, sans pour autant modifier la durée de la législature prévue par la Constitution.
