TIGER TOWN HISTORY » Beginning in 1940, the site of Tiger Town hosted the Lodwick School of Aeronautics whose primary purpose was training pilots for the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. » Tiger Town now consists of Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, 5 additional training fields, cafeteria, administrative offices, strength and conditioning facilities, & dormitories to house minor league players and coaches. » The stadium bears its name to honor the late Joker Marchant, Lakeland’s Parks & Rec Director who played an integral role in keeping the Tigers in Lakeland, with the first game in March 1966. » 2016 marked the 80th season at “Tiger Town” in Lakeland, extending the longest relationship with a major league club and a Spring Training host city. » 2016 marked the 50th season for the Class A Advanced affiliate , the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Tiger Town. This relationship is the longest in minor league baseball.

DETROIT TIGERS FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA The Detroit Tigers Foundation of Florida believes in creating multi-faceted partnerships in the community to enrich the lives of many by giving back through monetary donations, volunteer hours, and goods & services. We believe by becoming true team players in our community we can impact countless lives in our community.

MAJOR LEAGUE GOLF SCRAMBLE This annual event features a silent auction and the opportunity to interact with current and former Detroit Tigers players and coaches. The scramble has raised over $400,000 to benefit local youth organizations, with average funds raised of $30,000 per year.

EDUCATION DAYS Along with our co-sponsor Publix Super Markets Charities, we create a curriculum aimed to teach children the traditions of baseball and integrate general studies. Participants are invited to attend a Lakeland Flying Tigers game to put those lessons into practice.

TIGER TROT 5K RUN/WALK For over 20 years, the Tiger Trot is an annual event hosted at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. The course takes participants through historic landmarks and the stadium. The Tiger Trot has raised an average of $10,000 per year.

GAME DAY SILENT AUCTIONS The Detroit Tigers host a silent auction at every Spring Training home game featuring various donated items including jerseys, signed baseballs, bats, & other game used items. The auctions has raised $50,000 annually for the last 3 years, with the money distributed to local charities.
