Pathways to Learning and Employability For learners 14–19 years of age

Derbyshire County Council’s Adult Community Education Service offers programmes tailored for learners aged 14–19. We can help you to build your confidence and gain real skills for work or to help you into further study.

You will start with an informal chat with a member of our team to talk about what we can offer you.

We will take you through a skills check to decide which learning programme is best for you.

We can help you decide on learning that suits you…what, where, when and how?

14–19 Personalised Study Programme Countywide Part time or full time learning to suit you taking place in DACES Adult Learning Centres. You can choose from a wide range of learning opportunities to help develop skills and confidence and encourage progression to further learning, and employment.

16–19 Pre-Apprenticeship Study Programme Chesterfield, Shirebrook, Glossop, Cotmanhay and Alfreton Full time study in a group of young people to include confidence building, personal development and employability skills. You will gain a vocational qualification to prepare you for work, which can include supported work-placements and project work.

Work

16–19 Traineeship 6 weeks – 6 months Countywide Traineeships are designed for young people who are focussing on getting into work or onto an apprenticeship programme. Traineeships include a work placement of at least 100 hours and work ready qualifications.

16–19 Apprenticeship 12 – 24 months Countywide An apprenticeship is 12–24 month work-place learning giving young people the opportunity to experience paid work in a variety of subject areas to include: Childcare, Business Administration, Customer Service, Hospitality and Catering, and Support Work in Schools.

On all of these programmes you will learn maths, English, ICT, job and personal skills. You will also study for appropriate workrelated qualification(s).

You can join us at any stage. You can move into work or further learning at any stage too.

Further Learning

Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service provides valuable opportunities for young learners of all backgrounds and experiences. Many of our learners aged 14–19:  need learning that is different to that offered in schools   are school leavers who are not sure what to do next  are Children in Care or Care Leavers  are Electively Home Educated  have been referred through local Multi-Agency Teams. These individualised programmes allow learners to develop their skills and confidence and encourage progression to further learning, volunteering and employment.
