Pentecost Sunday

All of us are blessed, regardless of our own individual circumstances; God has given each of us many gifts. How we use those gifts is our gift back to God. For God's plan to work, each must do what we are called to do and guess what – we are not all called to do the same thing!

For the past two years, Father David Buckles, Hospital Chaplain at the Hoboken University Medical Center, has also served as our weekday and weekend assistant at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish. So many have enjoyed and have been blessed by his Priestly Ministry among us, either in his respectful and dignified celebration of Mass and Preaching, his celebration of the Sacraments, his attendance to the Sick, and his presence at the Parish in a variety of other capacities.

Father David is a Priest of the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. Father's Bishop has 'called him home' to Indiana to begin a new assignment there in a Catholic Hospital in their territory. Father is also affiliated with the Secular-Clerical Institute of Voluntas Dei ('the Will of God'). His departure for this change of assignment is very much in keeping with the charism of that Institute, and of the needs of Father David's home Diocese as determined by his Bishop. As such, Father will be leaving our area at the end of this month of May, in order to travel back to Indiana to begin his assignment, which is effective June 4. Along with my gratitude to him and his Bishop for his presence here for these past years, and for all that Father David has been for the Parish, I ask you to join me in prayers of thanksgiving and peace for Father David. As a brother Priest, I am saddened by his departure. He is a Priest and man of great integrity and kindness. He has been a wonderfully reliable, loyal, and trustworthy minister of the Gospel and Sacraments. He has been a blessing to me personally. Father David and I first met some years ago, when I drove my grand-niece up to Sacred Heart University in Connecticut to begin her studies. He was the University Chaplain there at the time, and welcomed me in concelebration of the 'incoming Freshmen Orientation Mass.' Having kept in contact, sometime after our meeting he expressed his interest in moving into Hospital Ministry, hearing that our Archdiocese of Newark had some opportunity and need. Arrangements were made through his Bishop for Father David to join our Archdiocese 'on loan,' and the rest is history (albeit a brief history). Upon my assignment to Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, I was overjoyed in knowing that Father David was already serving here as a weekday and weekend assistant. He has contributed immensely to making my arrival and existence here a smooth and comfortable one. I will miss Father David, as I know will many of you. Please keep him in your prayers, and attempt to find some time to warmly wish him farewell in the brief time that remains of his presence among us.

Thank you, Father David, and God Bless you as you move to another sector of His Vineyard. Ad multos annos. Monsignor Michael A. Andreano, V.G.

Parish Schedule GRATITUDE GALA

2018

My Dear Parishioners and Friends of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish: As you can see from the photos in this Bulletin and on the various other social media of the Parish, our Gratitude Gala was a wonderfully successful evening of sharing in Faith, Feasting, and Fun! Thanks to all of you who participated in one way or another - by your prayerful support, your sponsorships, your presence, your donations of auction items and Wine, your Ads in the Journal, and your bidding at the ‘prompting’ of the fabulous auctioneer - Eugene Flinn - and his able auction-assistant - Fr. Rocco Danzi, S.J.! The Gala is a major fundraiser for the Parish. Although we continue to tally the results, the major portion will be applied towards the latest phase of the HVAC project, and towards the repair of a roof leak in the corner of the Sanctuary that has been plaguing the Church for sometime. (More on all of that in an upcoming issue of the Bulletin...) A special note of GRATITUDE goes to our Karen Imbach, who in her capacity as Director of Administration & Stewardship, marshaled a Team of Volunteers who worked tirelessly for months, preparing for what was a spectacular evening. Again, those Committee members are: Dianna Vecchio, Ellen Montemayor, Jeannie Lubin, Karen Imbach, Michelle Flett, Paula Nevoso, Gaetano Sacco, Hannah Osterman, Elizabeth Flett, Tory Mercun, and Denise McManus. The Committee was supplemented by our own Team of Parish Staff. All are owed our appreciation and gratitude for their time and work. Thank you all, again, for your support of the Gala and so many other things. Gratefully yours in Christ,
