Board Election Important Updates

A Letter from the President/CEO Dear Member, As we begin the New Year, I am energized by our credit unions continued dedication to a philosophy of people helping people. As a member-owned financial cooperative, we remain focused on meeting your needs by providing SMART solutions, SIMPLE banking, and PERSONAL interactions. As a consumer, you made a smart choice to become a member of a credit union. Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that exist to serve their members. Credit union earnings are paid back to members in the form of higher savings rates and lower loan rates, unlike banks who are for-profit corporations with declared earnings paid to stockholders. That means you are more than a member, you are part owner. A volunteer Board of Directors is elected by members to manage a credit union. In this issue you will find our 2017 Board Election notice, please take a moment to review this important information. As a credit union, we are committed to strengthening the communities we serve. Through November 2016 our employees volunteered over 2,315 hours in the community and taught financial education to over 443 local students. In closing, I want to take a moment to offer my sincere appreciation to our Board of Directors and volunteers for their continued dedication to the credit union and our membership. These elected officials continue to represent the best interests of our members and make decisions that ensure long-term success of the credit union. To our employees, I sincerely thank you for believing in what we stand for as an organization and focusing on what’s important – serving our members and communities. And most importantly, I

Eric H. Renaud, President/CEO

wish to thank you, our member, for placing your loyalty and trust in Pima Federal. Wishing you a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2017!

Sincerely,

Eric H. Renaud President & CEO

Desjardins & Dora Maxwell Award our shared values; while our philosophy of helping others is the greatest measurement of our success. It is with heartfelt appreciation that we thank ALL of the employees at Pima Federal for living by this philosophy on a daily basis and for their involvement in our community and financial literacy efforts over the years. The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is given to a credit union or multiple credit union groups for its social responsibility projects within the community. The award is given for external activities including raising funds for charity, educational activities, or community involvement projects, such as a volunteer fair, building low-income housing, or loaning employees a few hours a week to work in hospitals, retirement homes, schools, etc. Back row, left to right: James Knoff, James Kisner, Robert Dutcher, Eric Renaud, Danny Smith, Eddie Frasquillo. Front row: Dawn Blackmon, Laura Ward, Liz Martinez, Arielle Overman, Angi Griffin, Cindy Campano, Bruce Baca.

Pima Federal was honored to have placed 2nd for the 2016 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award and received Honorable mention for the 2016 Desjardins Award for our commitment to community and financial literacy efforts in 2015. This is very special recognition considering community involvement, engagement, and teamwork are pinnacles of

CUNA created the Desjardins program to recognize leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy for all ages. The recognition program considers all activities supporting the personal finance education of members and nonmembers, including, but not limited to, face-to-face teaching using proprietary materials as well as financial literacy leadership efforts. We are humbled to receive this honorable recognition as we remain committed to the credit union philosophy of people helping people and improving the economic conditions of our communities.

Legendary Teacher Award September 22, 2016 marked the 4th Annual Legendary Teacher Day, a day to recognize and honor those special teachers who have made a significant difference in the lives of their students. As a credit union founded by teachers, Pima Federal was proud to partner with Amphi School District to sponsor the first Amphitheatre Legendary Teacher Award. A committee of volunteers reviewed 120 nominations submitted over a two week period to narrow down these entries to a single teacher. Although there were many deserving teachers in the running, this year we are proud to honor Danielle Mulleneaux, an Art Teacher at Ironwood Ridge High School as the 2016 Amphi Legendary Teacher! Ms. Mulleneaux has a long history in the Amphi School District, first as a student and now as an Art teacher. Many of the student’s nominations for Ms. Mulleneaux recounted her guidance, talent, and how she gave them the confidence in life and art to aspire for more and reach for the stars. We are proud to partner with the Amphi School District in honoring and recognizing this Legendary Teacher. Congratulations Ms. Mulleneaux, for making such a valuable impact on the youth in our community!

COMMUNITY CORNER MIKID: Giving More Than Thanks The holidays are a joyous time of year, full of hope and new beginnings. It is also a season for giving. In November, with the help of our friends at Boston Market, we were happy to provide 30 Thanksgiving dinners for families of MIKID. Each family is provided a full turkey with all the sides and fixings for a special holiday meal. MIKID is a statewide non-profit organization that provides services, support, and education to families of children with mental illnesses along with

emotional and behavioral challenges. Community Involvement is one of Pima Federal’s shared values, and a force that drives everything we do. Employees, families, and board members volunteer thousands of hours each year to make a difference in our community and help those in need. Please join Pima Federal in giving back to the community and together we can help make a difference.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. The event is more than just a walk; it is an opportunity to come together as a

community to help defeat this disease. On October 16, 2016 Pima Federal employees, friends, and families came together to celebrate breast cancer survivors and raise money to fund lifesaving research and support programs for those affected by this horrible disease.

delivery service, holding multiple bake sales, and selling pink awareness ribbons at all financial centers. Pima Federal team members also had the opportunity to wear pink and dress casual on Fridays by making a contribution to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fund.

This year, our employees wanted to take our community involvement efforts a step further, and came together as a team to raise funds for this cause throughout the entire month of October. Employees came up with creative ways to increase Pima Federal’s contributions, by hosting a $5.00 breakfast sale, organizing a coffee

We are so proud of our teams combined efforts to raise $2,140 for this deserving cause. Thank you to the entire Pima Federal family–members, volunteers, and employees, for your support and contributions!

Meet the Team

Springerville Financial Center This regular series will introduce departments across Pima Federal Credit Union and provide insight into their motivations, challenges and reasons for choosing to work at Pima Federal. This month, meet a financial center manager and her team who work together to build and maintain positive relationships with our members at our Springerville Financial Center. Department: Springerville Financial Center

Left to Right: Jennie Pesina, Senior Teller; Tammy Moya, Assistant Financial Center Manager; Margaret Coalter, Financial Center Manager; Savannah Baer, Teller Associate; Justin Jourdan, Teller Associate.

What are the department’s main responsibilities? The top priority at the Springerville Financial Center is to provide excellent member service at each and every interaction to the members of the Springerville/ Eagar areas and surrounding communities. Through a personalized approach we strive to offer efficient and accurate service consistently; whether it’s helping you Margaret Coalter, open a new account to Financial Center Manager booking your auto loan, our knowledgeable staff is here to help guide our member’s through their financial stages in life.

Center back in 2004 and has done an exceptional job at building so many valuable relationships with our members in the community. After 21 years of service, Linda has retired and we are committed to continuing on the path of building and embracing many more positive member relationships. Our staff is highly motivated and enthusiastic about helping to enrich the lives of the people in our community and is committed to doing so by living our credit union’s shared values.

What do you like best about working at Pima and your department? The best part about working at Pima is our members and the long lasting relationships we are able to build with them. Being in a small community provides a unique opportunity for us to get to know our members by name and understand their personal financial needs. I enjoy working for a credit union that has a strong desire to remain committed to the credit union philosophy of people helping people. This commitment is displayed through Pima Federal’s shared values which is the driving force behind all that we do. Though the credit union continues to grow, the closeknit, family like atmosphere and comradery between staff remains.

Quote from Margaret Coalter, Financial Center Manager: I’m very passionate about the credit union movement and appreciate how Pima Federal has embraced it. Our culture is healthy and refreshing in today’s world. Our member’s financial wellbeing is our primary concern and we take pride in helping them achieve their financial goals. It is rewarding to go home at the end of the day knowing you have truly helped make a positive impact in someone’s life.

What are the biggest challenges and rewards? At times, being in a rural area can be a challenge in terms of resources and technology; however, we are extremely resilient and strive to come together as a team to overcome any challenges. We are so grateful for the experts in our Information Technology (I.T.) department who ensure we have the best technology available to better serve our members. It is incredibly rewarding to have a member come in with financial challenges and be able to help them build up their financial strength so that they can get one step closer to their goals in life. What’s one thing happening in your department right now that people should know about? The staffing transition is a big deal for our financial center. Linda Harkins was instrumental in opening the Springerville Financial

Smart. Simple. Personal.

What is something most people do not know about you, your employees and your department? Not only do our tellers at the Springerville Financial Center assist members with their standard transactions, they strive to go above and beyond their responsibilities to assist members from troubleshooting account questions, fraud disputes, debit card inquiries, and much more. We work very well together as a team and share a common interest of helping others and improving the lives of our community.

A Message from Linda Harkins, Retired Financial Center Manager: In our business it is all about the members. Pima Federal’s executive team and the Board of Directors have always understood that and have worked hard to develop a vision, mission, and shared values that inspire us as employees. Always remember that a happy member will always remember. I am confident Pima Federal will never forget its roots as a credit union and will continue embracing the credit union philosophy of people helping people. Quote from Bruce Baca, Chief Retail Officer: We would like to invite every member of the Springerville/Eagar communities to visit our Springerville Financial Center to help us celebrate the promotion of Margaret Coalter as your new Financial Center Manager. I am confident Margaret will continue to work hard to earn your business by delivering on our Common Purpose of Helping Others and by living our Value Promise of Smart. Simple. and Personal.
