People Helping People Food Drive

April 1st – April 30th

Warmest Greetings My warmest greetings as the temperatures start to slowly rise and the very first signs of spring start to surround us. It’s a wonderful time of year. And, as we begin to think of warmer days and well-being, our thoughts also go out to those less fortunate. At the core of Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union is a value of serving others. “People Helping People” hangs proudly in our lobbies and on the hearts of all who work here. It’s not just a motto. It’s a feeling. A belief.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

From April 1-30, each of our credit union locations will collect non-perishable food items.

– Chuck Albrecht, President / CEO

This month MMFCU will do its part to give back to the communities it serves by launching the first of two large fundraisers for 2017; a Spring Food Drive. The crisis of food insecurity right here in our backyard is resounding and tugs at the hearts and minds of everyone at MMFCU. According to the Feeding America organization, in 2015 throughout the United States: • 43.1 million people (13.5%) were in poverty. • 24.4 million (12.4%) of people ages 18-64 were in poverty. • 14.5 million (19.7%) children under the age of 18 were in poverty. • 4.2 million (8.8%) seniors 65 and older were in poverty. These numbers hit closer to home than you may think; according to the 2014 American Community Survey the following counties in Central Minnesota all have people in poverty and in need of food:

Aitkin County.......................................................................... 11.9% Becker County....................................................................... 13.5% Cass County............................................................................... 17.0% Crow Wing County.......................................................... 11.8% Douglas County................................................................... 10.0% Morrison County................................................................ 12.1% Norman County................................................................... 13.0% Todd County............................................................................. 16.1% Wadena County................................................................... 17.2% While we would like to think we live in an area of plenty; deep down, we know that’s certainly not the case. In an effort to live up to our motto, MMFCU is proud, once again, to support a Spring Food Drive and do our part to help fill the pantries and bellies of so many in need. From April 1-30, each of our credit union locations will collect non-perishable food items. We will also accept, and wholeheartedly welcome, cash donations. For each dollar donated, MMFCU will provide a match to benefit each of our respective branch location’s food shelves up to $2,000. Taking it one step further, MMFCU staff will volunteer their time throughout the spring season to various organizations in our communities to assist in physically providing food to those in need. These organizations include, but are not limited to, Operation Sandwich (Brainerd/Baxter); Kids Against Hunger (Nisswa); Little Falls Flyer Pride Packets in the Little Falls Public Schools; Bowls for Bellies (Aitkin) and various food shelf locations in Alexandria, Detroit Lakes and Staples.

No matter what your level of investment experience or sophistication, you may benefit from developing a relationship with a financial advisor. Why? Because a qualified financial advisor is trained to analyze your personal financial situation and prepare a program designed to help you address your financial goals and objectives. Most people can benefit from professional guidance when they venture into the complex and confusing world of managing their financial affairs. A financial advisor will be able to assess your risk tolerance, analyze your resources and current asset allocation, take into account your tax liability, and make investment recommendations in the form of a written financial plan that will help you pursue your goals. The plan may help ensure that your current and future assets are used to their best advantage given your current financial situation and your financial goals.

Wendy Oksness :: LPL Financial Advisor

A flurry of new investment products, the emergence of global investing, the shift from companyfunded pension plans to employee-driven retirement plans (like 401(k) plans), and uncertainty about Social Security have all contributed to the increased need for qualified financial advice. The investment products sold through LPL Financial are not insured Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union deposits and are not NCUA insured. These products are not obligations of the Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union and are not endorsed, recommended or guaranteed by Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union or any government agency.
