Dated 27 June 2013 and published the following month as IMF Country Report No. 13/211, this staff report presents the findings of that year's Article IV consultation between the International Monetary Fund and Chinese authorities, following talks that concluded on 29 May 2013. Article IV consultations are the Fund's standard annual review of a member country's economic policies, and the China report was one of the larger and more closely watched editions given the size of the economy under discussion.
The report's staff team projected growth of roughly 7.75 percent for the year, while flagging downside risks to that outlook. Beyond the headline forecast, the package released alongside the staff report included an Informational Annex, a formal Statement by China's Executive Director, and a press release summarizing the IMF Executive Board's discussion of the findings on 12 July 2013.
As with all Article IV reports, the views belong to the IMF staff team rather than representing an official position of the Fund's Executive Board, and the Fund notes that market-sensitive information may be withheld from the published version.
