PEOPLE’S VOICES Workshop: EVIDENCE-BASED ADVOCACY

Co-organized by UNDP’s Post-2015 Team, UN Millennium Campaign, and The World We Want 2015

Description of the Workshop: In September 2015, United Nations Member States will adopt a new Sustainable Development Agenda, including a set of Sustainable Development Goals, during a high-level Summit of the UN General Assembly. Lets work together to make sure that millions of voices, hopes and dreams are heard. The UNDP Post-2015 Team, UN Millennium Campaign and the World We Want 2015 Team propose to conduct a one-hour workshop with the post-2015 Stakeholder Steering Committee on 17 or 18 February, on the margins of the 17-20 February negotiating session for the post-2015 development agenda. The objectives of this workshop would be to: •

Showcase more than 2 years of people’s participation in defining the post-2015 development agenda, including through direct engagement with policy-makers, in person and online. Since October 2012, www.worldwewant2015.org has served as a space for open-knowledge, opendata, and cooperation, and now includes a sophisticated data visualization tool that reveals trends: www.worldwewant2015/trends Present people’s voices as evidence-based advocacy and action, which are key to the post-2015 agenda negotiations that will continue through 2015.

The World We Want 2015 (WWW2015) is an innovative online platform created by the UN and civil society to amplify people's voices in the process of building a global agenda for sustainable development. It curates the global conversation and feeds into the post-2015 discussions, enhancing civil society’s participation and ensuring that people’s voices are taken into consideration when drafting the new development agenda. It is a unique online space that applies innovative techniques to data mining and visualization, thereby displaying data in a user friendly format. The WWW2015 platform hosts official UN and civil society consultations for post-2015, as well as a vast array of related civil society reports, and makes those inputs available to governments and other stakeholders. Led by the Policy and Strategy Group (PSG) for WWW2015, constituted by various civil society organizations and UN institutions, the platform is facilitated by the UN Development Group (UNDG) and managed by the UN Millennium Campaign (UNMC).

The “MY World 2015" Survey is the first UN global survey where people from all over the world are voting on issues they think are important in their lives. The “MY World” survey offers individuals a list of 16 issues to choose from. Voters are required to prioritize six of those issues they consider to be most important to their lives. The results of the MY World Survey are hosted in the WWW2015 Trends page. They complement the global consultative exercises by the UNDG and by CSOs worldwide.
