Days of Work: Saturday, Sunday

Shift: Overnight Start Time: 7:00pm

Finish Time: 7:00am

Hourly Wage Rate: $18.20 - $21.20 Benefits: Eligible for 100% employer paid benefits, including extended health and dental plans and MSP premiums coverage. Job Classification: Special Service Worker Union: BCGEU

Collective Agreement: Community Social Services

Job Summary Provides a variety of support services including case management, assessment, life skills development, problem solving, and conflict resolution and crisis intervention. Day-to-day support of the tenants, maintenance, security, and cleaning for the building. Qualifications Diploma in a related human/social service field. At least one (1) year experience working in a related environment, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have experience in the community social services sector with demonstrated working knowledge of community support agencies and resources. May require a Class 5 Driver’s License along with a Driver’s Abstract. Required to complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment.

Skills & Abilities: • Current Level I First Aid certificate. • Demonstrated knowledge/familiarity with related resources such as mental health system and related agencies, social assistance system, and addiction support agencies. • Demonstrated suitability to work with disadvantaged adults presenting challenging behaviours in a diverse environment. • Demonstrated ability to work independently. • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • Demonstrated physical/mental ability to perform the duties of the job. • Demonstrated ability to work with others collaboratively. • Demonstrated ability to understand and maintain client/worker boundaries • Engage tenants in day-to-day routines, stay in contact, and develop opportunities to help/aid tenant’s needs. • Provide tenants with assistance and basic skill training to maintain as independent and stable living as possible. • Encourage tenants to follow through with plans such as keeping appointments, housekeeping routines, financial and medication administration, leisure/recreational activities, etc. • Encourage tenants to make healthy choices. • Provide support with tenant move-ins and outs, collection of rent, assisting tenants to acquire furniture, advocating for specific needs, etc. • Advocate for tenants needs, make referrals, and collaborate with appropriate resources and community organizations. • Assist tenants with building issues including minor cleaning and/or maintenance and repair work such as replacement of bulbs, plunging toilets, dishes, etc. • Monitor tenants ability to maintain their unit and when required arrange for other support services. • Ensure flow of critical information through various means including documentation, database entries, intakes and shift change to bring forward issues and occurrences that take place on shift. • Work within a multi-disciplinary team context, collaborating with various support workers and families to promote a supportive community environment within the building. • Stay busy and motivated during quiet periods.
