Personal Independence Payment and other benefits at 16 Information for parents of disabled children in England, Scotland and Wales

The information in this guide is accurate as of September 2016. This guide applies to England, Scotland and Wales. In Northern Ireland some changes to the benefit system have been delayed. Personal Independence Payment was introduced in Northern Ireland in June this year but there may be differences in how it is administered. Universal credit is being introduced in Northern Ireland in October.

Introduction This guide looks at the benefits it may be possible for a young disabled person to claim once they turn 16 years of age. Part 1 looks at Personal Independence Payment (PIP). This is the benefit that is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for people aged 16-64.
