Welcome There are three ways to use the Centre; our flexible arrangements allow you to choose what works best for your lifestyle. Become a Member Purchasing any membership entitles you to use the pools during public swims, attend fitness classes and programs, and use the fitness centre. See pages 6 - 7 for more information on the benefits of becoming a member.

Register for a Program You can choose to join one of our many fitness classes, come use our walking track, or sign your child up for a program, day camp, or swimming lesson. See page 8 for more infomation on program registration. Drop-in Day Pass Pay to drop-in for the day or participate in our programs, public swims, the gymnasium, or fitness classes (drop-in classes are first come, first served).

General Information - Membership

Become a Member Making the decision to join a fitness centre is a great first step towards improving your health and wellness. At the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre, we’re dedicated to helping you explore different ways to exercise and improve your fitness – whatever your goals are. We’ve been helping people live healthier lives for over 10 years – join us today!

Access to fitness classes for all levels. Access to the leisure and therapy saltwater pools for public swims, lane swims, adult swims and nursery swims. Access to the gymnasium during specific drop-in times. Unlimited access to the fitness centre including strength and cardio equipment. Orientation to the fitness centre and equipment with a personal trainer included in your membership. Consultation with a personal trainer included in your membership. New member personal training special. Child and youth non-aquatic recreational programs, child minding, and Kid’s Lounge are included in a one year family, one adult family, youth, or child membership (does not include dance programs or day camps). Adult (18-54) Enjoy all the benefits of a Wellness Centre membership. Senior (55+) Enjoy all the benefits of a Wellness Centre membership. Family All members of the immediate family who reside at the same household can enjoy all the benefits of a Wellness Centre membership. Individuals 13-14 years old must purchase the “Youth Get Started” program before using the fitness centre. Children under the age of 13 are not permitted in the fitness centre. Individuals over the age of 18 must show proof that they are a student at a recognized College or University. One Adult Family Same as the Family membership with only one adult included in the membership. Couple/ Senior Couple (55+) Any two adult family members residing in the same household. Senior couples must both be 55+. Student (18+) Students 18 years of age or older with a valid student card from a recognized College or University can enjoy all the benefits of a Wellness Centre membership. Youth (15-17) Enjoy member programs, discounts on registered recreational programs, and access to the fitness centre, aquatic centre, and drop-in at the gymnasium. Child (6 weeks – 14 years) Enjoy member programs, public swimming, and drop-in at the gym, as well as discounts on dance programs, day camps, and swimming lessons. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the facility unless they are in a supervised program. Children ages 13 - 14 must purchase the “Youth Get Started” program before accessing the fitness centre. Children under the age of 13 are not permitted in the fitness centre.

Membership Details Membership Holds One-year memberships and PAP memberships may be put on “hold” for a minimum of one month, and a maximum of three months, once per calendar year. Written notice 10 days prior to the first of the month and a fee of $10.00 are required. The term agreement will be extended by the period of the membership hold. Membership Cancellations Cancellation requests must be received by the Centre’s Membership Services Coordinator no later than 10 days prior to the first of the month. If you request to cancel your membership prior to 6 months being completed, a $75 cancellation fee is applied. Subsidized Memberships Subsidies are available to individuals and families residing in the City of Peterborough who are unable to afford the cost of a membership. Subsidy packages are available at the reception desk or by calling 705-742-0050 x2203. All subsidy requests are completely confidential. Release, Waiver, and Indemnity The Participant (or parent or guardian if Participant is under the age of 18) voluntarily assumes any risk of injury or damage in connection with the use of services or facilities, and releases, discharges, and agrees to indemnify and save harmless the City of Peterborough and its employees, agents, and volunteers from any liability, claim, demand, or costs whatsoever incurred arising out of the participation of the Participant in the program at the facility. Accessibility The PSWC is an accessible facility including parking, building access, family changeroom with oversized stall with ceiling lift, water wheelchairs, and ramp or lift access to the pools. Subsidies The Recreation Division makes subsidies available for children of City of Peterborough residents unable to afford the cost of programs in this guide. To see if you qualify for subsidy or to make an appointment, call the Recreation Division at 705-742-7777 x1827. All subsidy requests are completely confidential. Photo Waiver In the course of all program activities, photos may be taken and audio and/ or visual recordings may be made. The City of Peterborough reserves the right to use photographs and videos of all our programs, participants, special events, and facilities for promotional purposes. As in any use of web or social media, any further control of the image once posted is no longer within the control of the City of Peterborough. Attendance Policy If a child misses two classes or lessons of a registered program (non-aquatic) without notification to the Program Coordinator or Program Staff, the child’s family will be contacted and the child will be withdrawn from the program to accommodate those on the program’s waiting list. Waitlist Policy If a program is full, you may request to be added to the waitlist. You will only be contacted if a spot becomes available. Additional phone numbers may be listed to ensure you can be reached as we cannot leave messages. Program Cancellations A minimum number of participants is required for all programs. Centre staff reserve the right to cancel programs when necessary. Full refunds, program transfers, or account credits will be provided if a program is cancelled. Refunds Program refund requests are accepted prior to program start and charged an administration levy of 10% or $5 minimum. Cash payments are refundable by cheque only. Program refunds are not accepted after the program starts unless accompanied with a medical certificate, and will be subject to the administration levy and be prorated accordingly. Facility rental cancellations must be made no later than seven days prior to start date and a 10% cancellation fee will apply. Cancellations made with less than seven days notice are non-refundable. Concussion Awareness Policy Parents are responsible for ensuring their children’s fitness for safe participation in programs. Information about concussions is available through the Youth Sport Concussion Program at www.yscp.ca. If it is suspected that a participant has sustained a concussion while engaged in activities at the Wellness Centre, a clearance form must be submitted before the participant may resume participation again.

Centre Policies



No running or boisterous play in the pool or on the pool deck.

General Facility



All children not toilet trained must wear “Little Swimmers” when in the pool.



No person under the influence of drugs or alcohol shall use the pools.



Bathing suit attire only. Street clothes not permitted.



Passing a swim test may be required in order to use the Aquatic Centre water slide.



Each person using the Centre shall conduct himself or herself in a responsible, courteous, and safe manner at all times.



All members and registered participants must swipe their card or key tag to gain entry into the Centre. If a card or key tag is forgotten, the patron must wait in line to be allowed into the Centre.

The use of cameras and / or cell phones is prohibited in all change rooms and washrooms.

Fitness Centre

The Wellness Centre strives to be a fragrance-free facility. Refrain from wearing or using any perfumes, colognes, scented hair products, scented aerosol products, or scented body lotions while in the facility. Individuals attending a program or activity with a client to provide assistance or support will be admitted free. Lockers are for day use only. The Wellness Centre is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Found items will be placed in the lost and found box for a period of one week. Items not retrieved will be donated to a charitable organization.



Show respect for equipment, facilities, and personnel at all times.



It is recommended that children under the age of 10 be accompanied by an adult while in the facility.

Aquatic Centre •

Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied into the pools by a guardian 16 years of age or older who is responsible for their direct supervision.



Youth aged 13 - 14 may use the fitness centre after completing the Youth Get Started program.



No food or hot beverages permitted.



No bare feet, sandals, open-toed shoes, or street shoes of any kind; non-marking athletic shoes must be worn.



Unaltered shirts which cover the entire stomach and chest must be worn at all times. Clothing containing zippers, buttons, or other hardware is prohibited.



Personal items such as backpacks or jackets are not permitted.



All machines must be unloaded, and free weights and accessories must be returned to their proper location after use.



Spotters and collars must be used when necessary.



Due to limited space, overhead Olympic lifting must be performed in the provided racks only.



All equipment must be disinfected immediately after use.



Be respectful to others and move fluidly from one machine to the next allowing others to ‘work in’.



Lifeguards are to be obeyed at all times.



Everyone must shower before entering the pools (Regulation 565.s.15.)



Misuse of equipment may result in immediate expulsion.



No person having a communicable disease or open sore on his or her body shall enter the pool.



A 30 minute limit on all cardio equipment is in effect during peak times.



With the exception of water and water bottles, no food or drinks are allowed on the pool deck.



No chalk please.



Track is a walking track only.



Use of profanity, or disrespect towards others will not be tolerated.

No person shall pollute the water in any manner including: spitting, spouting of water, or blowing of the nose in the pool or on the pool deck.

Book your child’s birthday party with us and take the stress out of this exciting event for your family. We will provide your child and their 12 guests with:

Come celebrate your preschooler’s birthday in our Youth Room. A perfect spot for younger children, the party can play with the facility’s toys and have access to childsized furniture. This room will keep your little one and their 12 guests entertained. Fees for extra children who are over the age of 24 months are applied; adults and infants are admitted free.

Multi-purpose Rooms The PSWC has three multi-purpose rooms (MPR) available for rent. Each room holds a maximum of 30 people. MPR A is equipped with a screen and projector. MPR A and C have sinks and counter space. Multiple rooms can be rented with divider wall opened or closed. Rooms are bright and spacious with large windows. A Small World Child Minding

A fun space for your child to hang out and play – choose from a variety of great activities. Use this great service to stay fit while your kids have fun. Kids must be 5 to 10 years of age.

The child minding service is a safe space where children can stay with friendly staff in a welcoming play environment. Children must be 6 weeks to 4 years old. Pool Capacity The Centre’s bather capacity is 175 persons. Adult and lane swims are for persons 16 years of age and older.

*PA Days On school PA days, the leisure pool will be made available to children enrolled in the camp program during the Adult Swim 11:15am to 12:15pm. Adults are welcome to use the therapy pool during this time on the following dates:

Aquatic Centre Rules • • • • • • • • • • • •

Supervision regulations apply to all swimmers under the age of 10 years. Children under 10 years of age must be directly supervised by an adult/person 16 years or older, in the pool, on the pool deck and in the family changeroom. Children under 4 years of age should be kept within arms reach of their supervising adult at all times. All participants under the age of 16 must use the family changeroom (with direct supervision from their parent/ guardian if they are under the age of 10 years). A supervision ratio of 1 adult to 3 children is required of all group pool visits (day camps, school groups, minor sport groups, birthday party services, etc.) Aquatic screenings will be administered to all Centre day camp program participants, rental groups, birthday party services, school groups, etc. Please call in advance to schedule a screening for your group. No persons having a communicable disease, feeling ill, or having open sores shall enter the pool. No person shall bring glass containers or food into the pool area. No outdoor footwear will be permitted. No running or boisterous play in the pool or on the deck. No person shall pollute the water in the pool in any manner, including spitting, spouting water or blowing of the nose in the pool or on the deck. All persons must shower prior to entering the pool (Regulation 565.s.15).

Trio lessons are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays and have up to three participants in a class. (10 weeks)

This course will prepare the candidate to respond to a variety of aquatic emergencies and will help to develop lifesaving knowledge, fitness, skill, and judgment.

Responsible Tweens Adapted from the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre’s original “Home Alone” program, this course is designed to help your tween feel more comfortable and confident as they enter a very crucial period in their lives. Participants will focus on safety, emergency procedures, being at home on their own, homework and study skills, stranger and online safety, peer and social issues, and simple snacks they can prepare on their own. Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Workshop We are proud to partner with the Canadian Red Cross (Peterborough branch) to offer the Red Cross Babysitting Workshops. Participants learn how to provide care to younger children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. This course also offers youth the training to promote themselves as a babysitter to prospective parents. Participants are asked to bring a “baby sized” doll or teddy for practical work. Workshop materials are included in the course fee. Please bring your lunch. Ages:

Leadership Training Program Let us inspire the leader in you! This program enables participants to choose an appropriate leadership style to use within a variety of groups and situations in a recreational setting. Students are asked to bring a notepad and pen, comfortable clothing, and running shoes to each session. Participants may have the opportunity to volunteer within camp and/or children’s programs upon successful completion of the program (a police check and vulnerable sector screening is required).

Children - Day Camps

Day Camps We are proud to host a variety of exciting day camp programs that provide children with the opportunity to participate, make friends, and join fun and recreational activities. Choose the camp program(s) that best fit your schedule and interests.

Personal Health & Information

Day Camp Staff

Personal Health & Information forms are mandatory for each child registered in a day camp program. Forms are available at the Centre’s reception desk or at the Recreation Division, City Hall. Forms may also be downloaded from the Centre’s website and faxed or emailed to the Program Coordinator. Forms are due one week prior to the start of camp programs. If you have questions regarding the forms, or would like to discuss your child(ren) in further detail, please contact 705-742-0050 ext. 2206.

Programming, supervision and implementation of our successful camp programs is provided by staff with mandatory certifications, skills, experience, and leadership characteristics. Their qualifications enable them to provide a positive and rewarding experience for children in a healthy and safe environment.

What to Bring Please bring a daily nut-free lunch, snacks, drinks, water bottle, running shoes, sunscreen and hat (or appropriate outdoor weather clothing), swim gear, and a smile. Please leave nuts and nut products, personal toys, electronic devices, and valuables at home.

Drop-off and Pick-up Parents and Guardians are required to personally check-in with camp staff at morning attendance and at evening collection times. If an alternative adult will be collecting your child, that adult must be listed on the child’s form. If a child does not arrive at camp, staff will contact the family for follow-up. If your child will be absent, advise camp staff in advance if possible.

Administration of Medications Camp staff cannot administer prescribed medications unless the appropriate form has been completed by parents and/or guardians. Please contact staff for details.

Participants with Special Needs If your child has special needs (physical, cognitive, behavioural, etc.) a one-to-one support adult should be provided to assist your child daily at camp. Please contact the Program Coordinator at 705-742-0050 x2206 before registering your child to discuss your child’s needs.

Behavioural Expectations at Camp Campers are expected to behave appropriately while in the care of the program and these expectations are in place to ensure all campers are permitted the opportunity to appreciate a positive and rewarding camp experience.
