Director of Leadership and Planned Gifts Vice President of Development

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE  This position reports to the Vice President of Development  The Pittsburgh Symphony seeks a highly motivated and experienced development professional to become its Director of Leadership and Planned Gifts. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the incumbent is responsible for creating a thoughtful, detailed and successful strategy for major gifts and planned giving prospects to help the PSO achieve its short and long term development goals. The incumbent will manage a portfolio of donors capable of making increased or new leadership annual fund gifts and create strategies to grow their support of the PSO, secure major gifts for special projects and will oversee the PSO’s planned giving program, including growing the number of donors who have made estate provisions for the PSO. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Responsible for identifying and managing portfolio of approximately 300 major gifts prospects (currently defined as prospects who can make a minimum Annual Fund gift of $1,500 but with a focus on prospects who can give $5,000+)  Responsible for 5-7 meaningful contacts per week totaling at least 300 contacts per year  Manage select PSO Development Committee volunteers, which includes PSO musicians, to engage individuals in their portfolio  Oversee and grow the PSO’s Planned Giving program including the Steinberg Society which recognizes individuals who have made a planned gift in their estate plan.  Manage the Gift Acceptance Committee including that the PSO’s Gift Acceptance policy remains in line with best practices and enables donors to maximize their giving to the PSO. Manage the planned giving marketing plan to identify new planned giving donors and evaluate which tools are optimal for allowing donors to make planned gifts. Responsible for the PSO’s planned giving website including staying abreast on best tools to optimize gift planning through the website.  Works with VP of Development on implementing parts of the new strategic plan  Works closely with the VP of Development to determine annual goals, metrics, messaging, timelines and portfolio assignments  This document is a summary of the typical functions of the job not an exhaustive or comprehensive list of all possible job responsibilities, tasks and duties. REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master’s preferred  Minimum 5-8 years professional development experience  Track record of securing major five and six figure gifts from individuals  Experience working with high-level volunteers  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; knowledge of Tessitura preferred  Must be able to provide own transportation to meetings and appointments
