ow is important the textile topic in a big architectural project? For the Contract, as it approaches the topic in an interior design project? PROJECTS / INTERVIEW During the design phase for architectural project or interior decoration, how depends inputs from the client and how the vision of the designer?
It is a partnership work between the necessities, requests and the project concept, architectural or interior designer, of the customer and the designer's vision. A symbiotic work that is done together. Indeed, the best project results are obtained when there is a dialogue, a continuous and open comparison between client and designer.

Which are the main differences in approach between contract and residential construction? When designing for private client, everything can be, the interface is the private client and therefore the project work is between two people, a direct comparison between designer and client. Instead, for the Contract there is never a direct comparison with the end customer. A simple example, for the hotel project, the correlation is with owner or the manager, while for the residential contract the representative is Contractor or Construction company. Finally, for Contract achievements, the customer designer never coincides with end user of construction. Is necessary one more concerted effort to identify their needs.

PROJECTS / INTERVIEW In the choice of material, do you’re relies on historical partners or a research of markets offers? Marco Piva firm has always taken an interest to the materials and innovations (finishing, new production and technology). A professional staff works daily to continuous updating of archive materials. A constantly updated archive allows you to have more availability to the needs of individual projects. There are historical Companies, especially for the mainly used materials. Collaborations with referents that over time have become consultants, valuable helpers of the firm with whom we compare for the materials.

How is it addressing textile theme in a project of interior design? The textile topic is in combination with entire project, and is developed inside the “mood” phase. The materials are replaced respect to kind of the project, legislations, site and costumers requirements. Delegated to an external contractor? No, one feature of Marco Piva firm it is to try to manage things internally, with our referents. In the Designer world, how are interested at textile topic and how they knows or are interested to know it? In other words, how is it important? The world of design and architecture have approached very nearly the theme of fashion, trends and trend, so certainly the textile issue has an important significance. Is necessary to be always informed and updated for to interpret properly the project. Our Firm is always active and in the forefront, in past we collaborated with So Far so Near, drawing Maryilin collection, with Ege for a collection of carpet and moquettes, with Jab Anstoets we presented three carpets to the last editions of “Salone del Mobile”, and are currently planning, for Sahrai, a new carpets collection that will be present at the Salone 2017. We also have an ongoing relationship with Dedar, Zimmer + Rohde, Rubelli and we work constantly with Elitis for wallpaper collections.

There are specializations on 'category manager' type of large retailers? I don’t think, but surely there are specialized professionals on textile trends. Do you follow fashions and to what extent? Yes, there are two particular approaches to trend, the first one is aesthetic for colors and designs, the second one is technological for all themes about environmental sustainability, allergic components ecc. We follow fashion as a necessity for the final product.

PROJECTS / INTERVIEW How is the process in the choice / selection of articles / Textile aspects in a project? Normally the project is born from an idea, on basis of which there is a concept (moodbards). In our project, world textile travels parallel to it. They do are demonstrating materials and visits in manufacturing companies? Yes, of course. Is very important but depends to the Project. If is it for client, we bought him in showroom for see the material example. While for a Contract’s project often we travel in the Company to follow production and carry out the relevant tests.

PROJECTS / INTERVIEW Which are the current trends for different environments/finiture components? There are more different current trends, because the textile world is less formal, more easy and alterable respect to other disciplines. Over the time we have seen a great change, in the past, company textile, made a specific product for one specific location in or out door. Now we have a large flexibility, many products are made to stand inside or outside without big differences. Are there a particular Fairs to keep you updated on textile products? For the textile material, two in particular: Proposte a Cernobbio and Anteprima in Milan. Maison&Objet and Salone del Mobile are most important but there are any more fairs, depend of the project kind of reference.

PROJECTS / INTERVIEW You are also a designer, during the design of furniture do you get started from functional project and then choose the material, or the developed start since from the elements and are developed according the idea? You can start from a functional project or from a particular material. The most important differences are the many unique solutions for a project but with only one identical methodology (modus operandi) for each of them. The starting point is to find a focus, derived inspiration from territory, history, a habit, movie, a particular smell or reading: a tale of which articulate the design, to get results excellence and realize functional furniture components.

PITERLIGHTPROEKT
Created by the designer Piterlightproekt, the project involves the lighting of the splendid buildings overlooking the Neva River’s bank, the main tourist attraction in the heart of the Saint Petersburg City. The facades and architectural elements of these marvelous buildings are brought out by Martini Light products. The architecture outlined by the lights marks out the city’s image and makes it easily recognizable to inhabitants and visitors alike. During the drafting of the lighting project for Seafront Makarova, great skill and aesthetic taste were necessary in order to achieve an extremely charming and sustainable skyline.

And that's why Led technology lighting solutions were chosen, as they are capable of impressive performance and low power consumption. The emphasizing lighting makes architectural peculiarities stand out and the uniform vertical lighting picks the façade’s design out. These technical choices mark the lighting project of Makarova’s Seafront, aiming at the enhancement of the buildings’ historical and architectural nature.

The existing building had a narrow facade, that caused a poor flow of visitors. To deal with this problem the many existing circular atriums were extended and joined up to create an elongated canyon-like space of over 58 m, drawing visitors into the back of the building. In addition, a wall consisting of a stack of 220 frameshaped boxes with video monitors, digital signage and displays of merchandise inside them, was installed along one side of the atrium, and this plays

the role of a directory for the whole store. The wall also has the effect of drawing visitors to the upper floors since it extends up from the first to the fourth floor. And by repositioning the escalators to run through the atrium and the wall, the design also facilitates a smoother flow of visitors. For the exterior design, it was decided to open up the outside as much as possible with the aim of eliminating the previous sense of oppressiveness.
31
However, since in Bangkok it is important to alleviate the intense heat of the sun, we created a double-skinned facade decorated with a pattern that reflects the 'stacked box' installation in the atrium. Since this new retail space was a hybrid between a shopping center and a department store, we worked on the environmental design not only for the common use areas, but also for the self-curated retail space which encompasses the majority of the site. Rather than categorizing merchandise by brand, the experience is organized around the theme of "Lifestyle Laboratory".

Furthermore, we blended the finishes on the floors and ceilings in the common areas and retail spaces in a graduated way which gives an impression that different materials are stirred together. In this way, we created an atmosphere where people can feel relaxed and free to approach the stores. Finally, we created a character called 'Discovery Man' as the symbol for the retail complex: we wanted to make a character that expressed intellectual curiosity and creativity serving as a guide in the complex.

NENDO The firm's philosophy, founded in 2002 in Tokyo and in 2005 in Milan, is “Giving people a small "!" moment” (exclamation, source: http://www.nendo.jp/en/concept/). There are so many small "!" moments hidden in our everyday. But we don’t recognize them. And even when we do recognize them, we tend to unconsciously reset our minds and forget what we’ve seen. But we believe these small "!" moments are what make our days so interesting, so rich. That’s why we want to reconstitute the everyday by collecting and reshaping them into something that’s easy to understand. We’d like the people who’ve encountered Nendo’s designs to feel these small "!" moments intuitively. That’s Nendo’s job”.

The Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism in Munich is built on the surface of the former headquarters of the German National Socialist Workers Party (NSDAP). Its cube shape is freely positioned between the buildings in the proximity. Cross-storey window openings which are being cut into the cube’s façade are given rhythm by vertical concrete members thus maintaining the building’s clear geometry. The structure has been designed as an exact cube with a building mass of 22.50 m x 22.50 m x 22.50 m. with wide openings shaped by vertical slits that give the structure a three-dimensional layout without compromising its geometry. The windows extend around the corners of the building, allowing panoramic views. The interior and exterior of the building is characterized by the predominant material: white concrete, produced by white pigment and white sand, in which the building has been entirely designed: facades to the floor and ceiling slabs. The structure, which has been left in the raw state, becomes at the same time the passe-partout for the intended interior uses, and in particular for the exhibition architecture.

The Project for the Gallery responds to the ambition of David Rooney to present mathematics not as an academic concept, but as a practice that influences technology and enables the environment around us to be transformed. forms one of the cornerstones of the calculation and scientific methods of research within architectural practices. It had a profound influence on architectural forms (morphology) and their origins, basing them on sound structural principles. Forms that develop the spatial organization of the gallery where the emphasis is focused on an important product of the British Aviation: The Handley Page of 1929 and the Transformation Ability of Mathematics and Science. Changes in degree to provide an intuitive model to understand the natural world and the calculation tools useful to examin scenarios that allow a comprehension of the nature’s mechanisms. The positioning of the more than 100 historical objects, and the production of robust arch-like benches using robotic manufacture, all embody the mathematical spirit of the brief. The resulting spatial experience created by these components within the Winton Gallery enables visitors to see some of the many actual and perceivable ways in which mathematics touches our lives.

An architectural project as a part of Daimaru’s 300th anniversary for its foundation. As its first store 'Hermès Gion-mise' chose this traditional Japanese house, previously used as a tea house. Renovated and transformed, the building’s exterior design remains with its original condition, since the area is designated as a historic landscape. The former building was made up of small rooms, narrow hallways and several spot gardens. To make them work as a store, those small spaces were connected, maintaining the framework of the building. In sales areas, a Japanese wood joinery technique called "kigumi" (merge technique with mortises and tenons joints), which is often found in traditional Japanese buildings, is used for furniture. The decor consists of furniture, built with square wooden pieces (50mm x 50mm), it seems willing randomly, but its "network" allows the furniture to be easily disassembled and reconfigured freely. Since 'Hermès Gion-mise' is a temporal store for a limited period, the designers have proposed the "kigumi" technique, so that the furniture can be reused in other places and in different forms. A project that keeps courageously the presence of traditional culture in the city of Kyoto, craft and entertainment center for over a thousand years, where tradition and innovation coexist.

Located on the Landes de Juzan campus in Anglet, the place where can be found innovative companies among academic research and industrial knowledge. This business hotel, protected in the heart of the Basque coast, is a reflection of the dialogue between the landscape and the project. The project's environmental challenge is to make the architecture an interior landscape constructed in harmony with the surrounding natural landscape. The building is manifested in its implementation by making perceptible the structural forces, the innervating networks, architectural elements in full participating in the Identity of the place. The atmospheres are qualified by precise assemblages of raw and durable materials as concrete, wood and metal. The architecture is revealed with subtlety in order to create, at the heart of the agglomeration, a privileged environment, calm and conducive to work. The limits between the exterior and interior are deliberately blurred in order to benefit from the vitality of the environment, with the concern to integrate in the heart of the building the presence of natural light and its variations. The facade of the offices opens generously on nature. External walkways let you enjoy the softness of the site and encourage informal meetings by extending outside the workspaces, as an open forum for discussions of ideas.

Following an international competition to design the Samsung showcase at the Olympic Park Pavilion, UNStudio has developed a design that builds on the brand’s relationship history with the Olympic Games. The design goal for the project was to develop an immersive visitor experience that incorporates pivotal design elements from the Samsung Galaxy brand philosophy. The Galaxy Studio was specifically designed to help visitors embrace the excitement of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and celebrate the Olympic spirit, enabling them to create, capture and share their own experiences. “The showcase exemplifies the theatre of multi-sensorial experiences that become possible when culture meets commerce. Providing an immersive retail experience that shifts from transaction to entertainment, the Samsung studio invites the visitor to experience the brand through storytelling and the simulation of real-world experiences. At once a theatre and a gallery, the pavilion demonstrates what we can look forward to in the future of retail.”
