IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director POSITIONS SUPERVISED: N/A JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, develops and implements new technology services throughout the library system for both staff and patron support; maintains, troubleshoots, secures and repairs library hardware, software, and peripherals as well as the LAN and WAN. Advises library staff on emerging technologies with potential use in conjunction with the library’s mission and vision. Works closely with library staff to apply technology for desired service outcomes. Maintains a positive working relationship with the Central Ohio Library Consortium (CLC) staff and partner libraries to implement and maintain pertinent technologies. Documents network map and maintains inventory of hardware and software licenses. Acquires and maintains necessary hardware and software licenses. Develops and implements periodic instruction on technology and software usage to staff and patrons. Attends regular CLC technology meetings and related gatherings. Travels as required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED with significant experience in network and software configuration required. Must have experience with hardware maintenance and installation. Must be able to communicate effectively with library staff and patrons. Postsecondary education in network administration or related field is required. Knowledge of standard library procedures is preferred. Experience working with public libraries and/or postsecondary education in library science or related field would be preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills with library staff, CLC staff, and patrons. Demonstrates ability to provide assistance to library staff and patrons on technical issues. Displays a working knowledge of active directory user and group management, group policies, and other Microsoft server technologies. Other preferred skills include website development and maintenance, data cable testing and installation, and experience with integrated library systems. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work on a computer keyboard/mouse for extended periods of time; ability to carry and maneuver equipment up to 75 pounds.

TYPICAL DUTIES: 

Manages and troubleshoots library servers



Oversees the imaging of hard drives and scripted operating system installations.



Oversees the installation and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows products and all other software on library equipment



Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs library hardware, software, and peripherals.



Develops and implements short and long range technology plan



Performs technology classes to the public



Trains library staff on new technologies and software



Works with librarians to develop technology architecture for new programs and services



Maintains LAN and WAN



Maintains an inventory of all equipment and software



Responds to network emergencies in a timely manner



Oversees routine network backups



Actively seeks out and tests new technologies and software that could be beneficial to library operations or services



Manages estimates for new and replacement network equipment and suggests purchases



Performs other duties as assigned by the Director



Participates in CLC committee planning where assigned and attends regular meetings
