Poetry Exercise 2 Simply Simile Are you ready to start writing poetry? Here is a simple exercise using grammar to help you on your way! Just follow these 5 steps. -------------------------------------- 1) On the first line write a NOUN of your choice. 2) On the second line write 2 ADJECTIVES joined by ‘and’ that describe the noun on line 1. 3) On the third line write a VERB and an ADVERB that describe the noun in action. 4) Start the fourth line with LIKE or AS followed by a comparison. 5) Start the fifth line with ‘IF ONLY’ followed by a wish. -------------------------------------- Example: The ENGEES student Strict and studious Studies seriously Like someone seeking a certain secret If only she’d stop searching and sit and savor the scenery. -------------------------------------- Line 1: (noun) _______________________________________________________ Line 2: (adjective 1) _________________ and (adjective 2) ___________________ Line 3: (verb) ______________________ (adverb)__________________________ Line 4: Like/as_______________________________________________________ Line 5: If only _______________________________________________________ Now rewrite you poem on another piece of paper, this is your chance to add or change words or ideas.
