Articles of the Indian Constitution The Constitution was adopted on 26 November 1949. The Constitution came into force on 26 January 1950. World's lengthiest written constitution had 395 articles in 22 parts and 8 schedules at the time of commencement. Now Constitution of India has 448 articles in 25 parts and 12 schedules. Also, 101 amendments have been made in the Indian constitution. Part I

Fundamental Rights - We have six fundamental Rights. Fundamental rights are borrowed from the constitution of USA or Bill of Rights.

1. Right to Equality (14 - 18) 2. Right to Freedom (19 - 22) 3. Right against Exploitation (23 - 24) 4. Right to freedom of Religion (25 - 28) 5. Cultural and Educational Right (29 - 30) 6. Right to Constitutional Remedy (32) Note- Right to property was also a fundamental right but by 44th Amendment act, 1978 it was removed permanently and made as a legal Right. It is mentioned in article 300(A) of the constitution.

1. Right to Equality (14 - 18) Art. 14 – Equality before law – Law is not biased for any people, all will get equal punishment before law. No discrimination is made on the basis of sex, colour, religion with the exception of “President of India” and “Governor of States”. Art. 15 – Prohibition of Discrimination on the basis of Religion, race, caste, sex and place of birth. Art. 16- Equal Opportunity in Public Employment – Reservation Comes under this. 2. Right to Freedom (19 - 22) Art. 19(a) - Freedom of Speech & expression – But it should not hinder the integrity of our country. Art. 19(b) - Freedom of Assembly - with peace and without arms. Art. 19(c) - Freedom to form Association. Art. 19(d) - Freedom of Movement in any party of the country. Art. 19(e) – Freedom of Residence & Settlement. **Art. 19(f) – Right to hold the property – It has been deleted. Art. 19(g) – Freedom of occupation & Business. – Except illegal profession. Trick – SAAMRO Note – When there is national emergency a/q (Art. 352), at that time article 19 is the only article in the constitution of India which gets suspended automatically.
