Position Announcement Director of Marketing and Communications (Full Time) Priority given to applications received by June 17, 2016 The John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education (http://www.jngi.org) seeks a Director of Marketing and Communications. The Gardner Institute is a non-profit organization which is nationally and internationally known for programs and services that enhance student success, retention and completion in colleges and universities. The position reports to the Institute’s Vice President for Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Events, and works with all of the Institute staff to enhance the reach of the organization’s marketing and communication efforts. Job Duties and Responsibilities The Director is expected to understand the Institute’s strategic vision and enhance its general strategic plan and tactics with an eye towards strong brand recognition and appeal. Of great importance is continually elevating the profile of the Institute’s highly respected brand in the higher education teaching, learning, student success, retention, and completion marketplace. Ongoing constructive assessment of current marketing and communication practices is expected, along with recommendations that build on existing brand equity. It is further expected that existing primary and secondary data will be thoroughly and continually analyzed for market trends and factors affecting the Institute’s brand image and market position; and that additional qualitative and quantitative market research will be conducted or administered as needed. Also needed is implementation of the Institute’s client relationship management system (Salesforce), with the goal of providing uniformly presented account information (e.g., history, current and potential projects, key contact personnel) to Institute staff to support the building and maintenance of relationships with clients. Additional responsibilities include refining and managing comprehensive marketing communications (print collateral, web site, social media presence, audio/visual material, etc.), managing communication with current clients, and either conducting or assisting with promotional webinars and presentations to clients and at conferences. Periodic overnight air travel is required to staff exhibit booths at conferences. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have at least three-to-five years of experience in brand management in a business-to-business services or product domain. A bachelor’s degree is required, but a

professional graduate degree is preferred. Candidates will be assessed for communication fluidity across media and contexts, leadership skills and a teamwork orientation, and competence with standard and emerging technologies. Also sought is an employment history and work ethic that upholds the Institute’s values and unimpeachable reputation. Previous higher education related marketing and communications experience is preferred. Work Location The Director is required to work at the Institute in Brevard, North Carolina, 19 miles from the Asheville Regional Airport and 33 miles from Asheville. Employment begins in August/September 2016. The compensation package includes a competitive annual salary ($35,000 - $55,000 range) and excellent retirement and medical benefits.
