Position Announcement for L’Arche USA Communications Manager

L’Arche USA is seeking a Communications Manager to strengthen systems and implement strategies for communicating with external and internal audiences. Summary L’Arche USA (www.larcheusa.org) is part of L’Arche International, a federation of inter-religious and inter-denominational faith communities where people with and without intellectual disabilities live and work together. There are 18 L’Arche communities in the United States. The Communications Manager helps design and implements the communications strategies and systems for L’Arche USA, ensuring their coherence with the Identity and Mission of L’Arche. He/she is responsible for helping L’Arche USA to promote the experience and key messages of L’Arche to society – including the gifts and conditions of people with intellectual disabilities – and to raise public awareness of L’Arche in the U.S. He/she supports the L’Arche USA’s national leadership team in communicating with its member communities, friends and supporters. He/she supports member communities in their own external communication initiatives. The Communications Manager reports to and works in close collaboration with the L’Arche USA Director of Development and Communications. He/she also works collaboratively with the National Leadership Team, L’Arche International, and communications peers in other countries of the federation of L’Arche. This is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Key Responsibilities 1) Develop and use resources and tools required for implementing communications strategies. a. Lead the writing, editing, and design of print and online materials for L’Arche USA, including biannual print newsletters, an internal E-newsletter, website and social media content, press releases, fundraising appeal letters, brochures, and other communications materials. b. Ensure the timely circulation of communications materials by all appropriate means, including the L’Arche USA website and social media. c. Secure paid or volunteer photographers/videographers as needed. 2) Promote the experience and public image of L’Arche in the United States. a. Monitor internal and external media for news and features relevant to L’Arche. b. Identify opportunities for increasing L’Arche’s presence in print and audiovisual media. c. Support L’Arche USA and member communities in responding to inquiries on L’Archerelated or public matters. d. Assist in identifying and training qualified spokespeople. e. Participate in the organization of events that promote the Mission and experience of L’Arche. 1

3) Support fundraising for L’Arche in the United States. a. Provide communications resources and messaging for the fundraising activities of L’Arche USA’s Office of Development and Communications. 4) Monitor the use of the L’Arche name and visual identity by the members of L’Arche USA. a. Provide advice, support, and best practices to L’Arche USA communities on communications policies and practices, including through co-leadership of the L’Arche USA Development and Communications Resource Group. b. Promote adherence to L’Arche International policies and guidelines on communications. 5) Propose and support important partnerships with individuals or national organizations who share our values and commitment to promoting the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities and building a more human society. a. Support and promote current and new partnerships across the United States. b. Recommend and support the participation of L’Arche USA in national forums. Requirements of the role  On a regular basis, to report to and meet with – remotely or in person – the L’Arche USA Director of Development and Communications.  To travel to national and international meetings of L’Arche 2-3 times per year. Personal profile for this role  Embraces the Identity and Mission of L’Arche.  Holds a Bachelor’s Degree, with additional education preferred.  Has experience in organizational communications, with experience in L’Arche or other faithbased organizations strongly preferred.  Excels and demonstrates creativity in written and verbal communications.  Is current and competent in the methodologies of electronic and social media.  Demonstrates initiative, good organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.  Is capable of working autonomously, collaboratively, and with flexibility.  Is a person of vision, compassion, integrity, and has a sensitivity regarding social nuances.
