Education Volunteer Youth Services Youth Education Coordinator One day per week; minimum 4 hours per week Highland Annex: 1220 N Highland, L.A. CA 90038

PROGRAM SUMMARY: The Youth Center on Highland provides services to homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or questioning transitional aged youth 14-24 years old through programs and services such as; showers, housing, education, employment, development, health and various others. JOB SUMMARY: This position supports the Education Program in providing education services to homeless and at-risk youth to assist them in developing educational plans and attaining and maintaining enrollment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Facilitate education weekly groups to members; 2) Upkeep of member files and documentation; 3) Provide co-supervision to sheltered members, age 18-24; supervise computer lab 4) One to one work with GED tutoring; 5) Communicate with case managers and other youth advocates on a daily basis; 6) Help coordinate education workshops and events/activities. JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 1) Responsible, respectful and dependable; 2) Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation and genders in a multicultural setting; 3) Knowledgeable and sensitive to the issues affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, particularly those who are homeless, at-risk and may have substance abuse and mental health issues; 4) Ability to engage youth and facilitate workshops; 5) Able to work two (2 hour) days a week, or one (4 hour) day, and keep a consistent schedule. Opportunity to expand on hours—with prior approval—and dependent on consistent schedule and/or educational program requirements; 6) Excellent computer skills including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems; 7) A strong passion in learning to effectively develop youth who are homeless, at-risk and may have substance abuse and mental health issues; 8) Stable and dependable transportation to Hollywood; 9) Bilingual English/Spanish speakers preferred. TRAINING: 1) Must attend a full day training to be scheduled upon start date. EDUCATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1) Stable and dependable transportation to Hollywood; 2) Required to obtain a LiveScan.
