Postdoctoral Fellowship CRUISElab Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work University of Toronto Project Focus: Examining online outreach interventions for sexual wellness and HIV/STI prevention among gay, bisexual and two-spirit men. Dr. David J. Brennan, Director of the CRUISElab (www.cruiselab.ca) at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, (Toronto, Canada), is seeking a one-year (possible extension to a total of 3 years), full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow. CRUISElab is an interdisciplinary social work research lab focused on using rigorous community-based research methods and principles to examine the optimal health and wellbeing of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM), particularly men who experience being marginalized by age, gender identity, ethnoracial identity, HIV status, location, socio-economic status and/or Aboriginal identity. Grounded in a commitment to social justice and a passion for making HIV research applied and relevant to community needs, our lab seeks to reduce the impact of HIV and other health disparities on the lives of marginalized GBM. The lab is funded by research grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR), and the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN). Dr. Brennan is an Applied HIV Research Chair in gay and bisexual men’s health. The lab is staffed by a lab manager, with several students (PhD, Masters and Undergraduate) who are employed as research assistants.

The Fellow will participate in mixed method research focused on examining how gay and bisexual men use mobile apps and online tools to for social-sexual engagement as well as for health promotion and health literacy. Existing and newly established quantitative and qualitative databases are available for data analyses, and opportunities are available for establishing new research protocols. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to develop, and be expected to prepare,s additional grant funding applications. The Fellowship is ideal for those seeking research opportunities and experience in social work and other social sciences, public health, sexual health, and/or health psychology. The Fellowship is also ideal for those with research interests in HIV/AIDS, sexual health, and the health of GBM. Research experience in these topics would be an asset, but is not required for applicants with other significant research experiences.

The starting date is flexible, but would preferably begin as soon as possible. To apply, submit a cover letter describing your range of interests and career goals, a C.V., and 2-3 first-authored writing samples (e.g. published manuscript reprints,

Letters of reference are not required at the present time, but the applicant should include the contact information for three professional references who have agreed to be contacted.
