POST-GRADUATE IN-HOUSE COUNSEL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

AN INNOVATIVE ONE-YEAR FELLOWSHIP matching recent SMU Dedman Law graduates with corporate legal departments.

All about the POST-GRADUATE IN-HOUSE COUNSEL FELLOWSHIP SMU Dedman Law’s In-House Counsel Fellowship Program provides corporate legal departments with a cost-effective way to hire recent law school graduates for a one year term with no obligation beyond the fellowship. At a time when in-house lawyers are being asked to do more with less, the program is a win-win for all involved: • Recent law school graduates help you complete special projects, conduct legal research, and provide immediate value. • Your team gains an additional lawyer for one year at a low cost. • Our graduates gain the skills, experiences and mentorship they need to advance their careers. HOW IT WORKS • SMU Dedman Law compiles resumes of highly-qualified candidates for your review. • You select the candidates you want to interview at the law school or at your company. • Compensation is up to the corporation; however, we suggest fellows be paid between $60,000-$80,000 for one year.

SMU Dedman Law graduates bring PRACTICAL SKILLS + HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE. Our new graduates represent the best in academic excellence, leadership and professional presence. They have taken a broad array of transactional courses and learned key research, writing, and drafting skills from our nationally and internationally-recognized faculty, as well as seasoned practitioners. Our students have also received sound business training and experience in the field. For example, approximately one-quarter of our students participate in the Law School’s Corporate Counsel Externship Program, which integrates a corporate counsel class with legal externships at major corporations under direct supervision of in-house counsel.

MEET YOUR DEPARTMENT’S NEEDS WITH TOP-NOTCH LEGAL TALENT. The POST-GRADUATE IN-HOUSE COUNSEL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM offers legal departments a way to support their existing team with a talented young lawyer.
