PR Contact Shelby Lichliter [email protected] 925-216-5303 Remitly’s Aaron Gregory Receives In-House Counsel Innovator Award Puget Sound Business Journal Award Recognizes Gregory for Legal Strength in Highly Regulated Financial Technology Space SEATTLE – January 27, 2016 – Remitly, the largest independent digital remittance company in the U.S., is proud to announce that the company’s senior counsel, Aaron Gregory, has received the Puget Sound Business Journal’s In-House Innovator Award. Each year the Puget Sound Business Journal hosts the Corporate Counsel of the Year Awards to recognize members of the Washington legal community for their outstanding work to protect and defend companies as both generalists and specialists in the legal profession. Gregory was selected as the In-House Innovator out of a pool of nominees drawn from the corporate counsel ranks of all public and private companies and non-profit organizations in the greater Seattle area. As Remitly’s senior counsel and the company’s primary attorney, Gregory oversees all legal issues affecting Remitly, from vendor contracting, intellectual property, and regulatory and licensing matters to marketing and corporate law issues. “With the capabilities of technology, the flow of money globally should be as simple as the flow of information,” said Gregory. Making global payments networks function as seamlessly as the information networks we take for granted is his ultimate goal and the legal challenge that drives him to continually innovate in the area. “If people could move money as quickly and easily as we can send a text message or email today, we would realize that we’re only scratching the surface of what payments can do.” Aaron has helped lay the legal foundation for Remitly’s ability to scale within the United States and around the world. Working closely with team members from across the organization, he seeks to enable the company to scale rapidly, but thoughtfully, by targeting the largest money transfer corridors in the world where Remitly can make a meaningful difference by offering its fast and affordable money transfer service. “Remitly sits at the intersection of technology and regulation which creates both opportunity and complexity for our legal and compliance teams,” said Remitly CEO Matt Oppenheimer. “Aaron’s work has been key to our rapid expansion and his leadership, integrity and collaborative nature make him very deserving of this honor.” Prior to joining Remitly, Aaron was the general counsel for SmartSenseCom, a fiber optic sensing company. Previously, he was a managing associate at Dentons, the world’s largest law firm. During his time at Dentons, Aaron founded a coalition of payments startups dedicated to overcoming the collective legal hurdles faced when launching payments businesses. The Puget Sound Business Journal will profile Gregory in their February 26 issue and will host a banquet to recognize Gregory and all award recipients on February 25, 2016 at the Fairmont Olympic Seattle.

The award comes as Remitly continues its rapid growth. The company’s money transfer iOS and Android apps are has among the highest-rated apps in the App Store and in Google Play.
