Arch-Vision BV - Max Euwelaan 51 - 3062 MA Rotterdam – The Netherlands ... As a matter of course, architects using BIM
Press Release Building Information Modelling best known in the Netherlands and the UK Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a design and building method applying a digital 3-D model and database to develop the building or construction. The structure of the software allows BIM to link calculation software to the model. Much is expected of this technology - but how aware are architects of the possibilities offered by it? Comparing the architects’ use and knowledge of BIM in six European countries, Dutch and British architects turn out the most BIM-aware ones among their colleagues. Those architects actually applying BIM consider quick and better planning important advantages. This results from the latest issue of the European Architectural Barometer, a market study launched by Arch-Vision. The awareness and use of BIM is the highest among the architects in the Netherlands: Three out of four Dutch architects are aware of the BIM technology, and 17 per cent have already used it. Another country where architects are also comparably often acquainted with BIM is the United Kingdom (41 per cent). In Germany, France, Spain, and Italy, the large majority of the architects is still unacquainted with BIM. Awareness BIM (in %, n=1,200) UK DU

Press Release Quicker, faster, better: advantages of BIM in the architects’ perspective As a matter of course, architects using BIM regularly are more familiar with the advantages of this model than those applying it rather rarely. In all six countries, Dutch architects use BIM the most: this makes their judgment also the most interesting. As shown by the study results, almost 2 in 10 Dutch architects acquainted with BIM think that the quickly made designs and plans are among the technology’s advantages. Almost one third of architects each in the UK and Germany consider a better planning quality an advantage of BIM. Two thirds of the French BIM acquainted point out that a quicker lead time is a positive point. Their Italian colleagues estimate the reduction of the calculation time as an advantage of BIM (20 per cent). Advantages of BIM (in % of respondents that are acquainted with BIM, n=353) N
