PRESS RELEASE Hit reality show “Don’t Tell the Bride” comes to North Kent College, Dartford and sparks flew! Sparks were flying when hit reality TV show “Don’t Tell the Bride” came to North Kent College recently to film the trials and tribulations pre wedding and the wedding celebrations of former students Ryan Palmer and Maria McHugh on Saturday 9th April at North Kent College, for the long awaited new series starting this Summer. The episode will hit our screens on Thursday 28th July at 9pm on Sky One. The show has the groom planning an entire wedding, from wedding venue, entertainment, cake and the all-important dress on a £14,000 budget in just three weeks with no input at all from their brideto-be. Sky One has slightly increased the budget from £12,000 to £14,000 since the last series, let’s hope Ryan didn’t make any terrible choices with the extra cash -you will just have to watch and see! College sweethearts, Ryan and Maria met whilst studying in 2007. Ryan studied Level 3 Sport Development Coaching & Fitness & Foundation Degree in Sports Studies whilst Maria studied Early Years. Cupid struck one lunchtime over in the college canteen! Ryan said” The whole experience was brilliant, to have my wedding at a place that has shaped our lives and where we first met was so special. North Kent College has helped me in so many ways. It was the only place I wanted to hold my wedding. When I was asked to plan my big day, this was instantly my first choice as it meant so much to me. A huge contributing factor to how special our wedding was, is when my old tutor and now close friend James Butterfill, Curriculum Manager Sport, accepted my request to read out my vows and hold the ceremony in one of my former classrooms. It was great for him to be able to host the ceremony and read out mine and Maria vows. James has seen both of us grow over the years and it was great he was such a special part of our marriage ceremony. Also, College Principal, David Gleed was an integral part of the process and so willing to let us film at the college, a massive thank you to everyone!” The College sports hall served as the evening reception venue where Ryan brought props including large chalk boards, old fashioned school desks, and giant chairs and arranged to dance the night away along with a surprise act of Irish dancers, then lit up the dance floor and had an American prom theme.

North Kent College catering students cooked the fabulous wedding breakfast in the college canteen and kept with the theme of school dinner style! James Butterfill, Curriculum Manager, Sport said of the event “Such a wonderful event to be held at the College we were happy to be part of such a special day for an amazing couple. It is good to know the college had such an impact on Ryan and he chose us for his very special moment surrounded by family and friends.” ENDS For further information, please contact Claire Shearwood Burton 01322 629581 [email protected] Notes for editors: -
