Could This New Year See A New Year? A Nuneaton and Bedworth charity is encouraging people to make some positive changes to their life. If you piled on the pounds in 2016, The Healthy Living Network can help with their community based Weight Buster sessions. Held on a weekly basis at a number of community venues in the borough, people can turn up when they want to get weighed. Led by nutritionally aware staff, there are also discussions around what you are eating, recipes and one to one support. Hannah Wischhusen is one of the Weight Management Officers. She says “Now is a great time to come and meet us. If you made a new year’s resolution to lose weight, we are here to help. All of our groups are friendly and relaxed. There is no pressure, we want to support you make some healthy changes to your lifestyle” One of the classes is held at the Newtown Centre in Nuneaton on Wednesday mornings 11.15 – 12. John Pagett has been going to the group for the last year and has lost a staggering two stone. He says “I saw an advert in the paper. My wife is diabetic and needed to lose weight as well, so we decided to go along together. As well as the weigh in, we get lots of advice on what to eat. Each week I feel motivated, knowing I have a weigh in coming up each week. Weight Buster groups focus on healthy eating and exercising. There are no diet plans to follow. The information given out follows guidelines from the British Heart Foundation. The sixty nine year old added “I walk my dog a lot and now have a monitor that records how many steps I take in a day. I have also made a lot of small changes, which I learnt about in Weight Busters. Just cutting out biscuits and cake with my coffee has really helped.” There are no upfront costs or membership fees. All that is asked is a three pound donation at each session.

John from Stockingford says “I would definitely recommend going to one of the classes to see what it is like. I get loads of advice and encouragement. Hannah is really good, enthusiastic and committed to the group.” Weight Busters is supported by Fitter Futures who offer twelve weeks free for people with a body mass index of over thirty or over twenty eight if they have a medical condition. Hannah says “John has done brilliantly. By making a few small changes to what he eats and sticking to it he has seen positive results. We hope more people will come and join our classes in 2017 and see that they can change their lives for the better as well. We are starting a new class on Thursday 12th January 10 – 12 at the CHESS centre in Camphill. Everyone is welcome to come along. We will work out their BMI and talk to them about moving forward with their weight. The Healthy Living Network runs other Weight Buster sessions across Warwickshire.
