The Illinois Academy of Audiology (ILAA) is excited to continue the strong tradition of presenting one of the best and well-respected statewide audiology conventions in the country for over two decades. The convention offers a high quality continuing education experience, including CEU presentations given by nationally known speakers, the opportunity to visit with our exhibitors/ sponsors to learn about their latest products and services, and a chance to share, learn and investigate some of the latest clinical concepts, technology and practice management solutions.

Amanda Long, AuD Laurin Moodie, AuD

This year’s theme is “Together Towards Tomorrow.” We hope that this year’s networking events and educational sessions will help bridge the gap between experienced and new professionals. Additionally, the educational component between a professional and their patients is one that should not be overlooked. Learning how to be a better educator is a valuable tool that can serve professionals in all areas of audiology.

Subjective Assessment of Spatial Hearing Ability

Coordinating Real Ear Measurement with AR Treatment

Ann Perreau, PhD Augustana College

Dave Smriga, MA Audioscan

Abstract: Considering the needs of our patients with hearing loss and the constraints on our time as audiologists, assessing their spatial hearing abilities is often overlooked. However, localization plays an important role in speech communication, and new questionnaires such as the Spatial Hearing Questionnaire are now available and will be discussed.

Abstract: AR is brain training designed to guide the natural process of neural plasticity toward building a better speech processing brain. Using Speechmapping REM, one can monitor and guide this AR process, gradually manipulating amplification settings and moving the patient comfortably toward a more effective overall solution to their hearing condition.

Bio: Anne Perreau, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Communication Science and Disorders at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She received her PhD from the University of Iowa.

Bio: David J. Smriga is a senior audiology consultant for Audioscan, a division of Etymonic Design, Inc., a major manufacturer of hearing instrument verification and fitting equipment. Mr. Smriga received his Master’s degree in audiology from Northern Illinois University in 1976.

Thank you to our convention faculty for their continued support of ILAA and leadership in the Audiology industry.

On behalf of the ILAA Board of Directors and Education Committee, I offer sincere thanks to our 2016 convention faculty for their continued support of ILAA and leadership in the field of Audiology.
