BROS-eksamen: Belangrike inligting

• The student number is automatically generated by the system. Consecutive numbers differs with a number of 8 (eg. 12345686 will be the follow-up of 12345678). The last two numbers are of such a nature that no two students will have the same first seven numbers (ex. if a number is 12345671 there cannot be a student number 12345679). • About 5,500 student cards are replaced every year. • There is a bar in Mozambique (Ponta de Ora), Fernandos, where it is tradition to put your student card up against the wall when you visit.

BROS exam: Important Information

WHO IS THE NWU? A new institution – the NWU – was officially established on 1 January 2004 as part of the transformation of the higher education landscape with: • Chancellor: Kgosie Molotlegi (also leader of the Royal Bafokeng nation) • Vice-chancellor: Prof Dan Kgwadi (also previous rector of the NWU Mafikeng Campus) • Three campuses In March 2007 the new permanent logo of the NWU was approved by Council. The NWU brand has three main elements: • Our logo: The chain of three inter-locking links symbolises the unity of the University and visually express the resolve and sense of partnership within it. The three colours (Green = Vaal Triangle campus, Maroon = Potchefstroom campus and Blue = Mafikeng campus) symbolise the diversity of the three campuses and the NWU’s use of diverse education and institutional offerings to contribute to improving the human condition and human relationships. • Our name: the word-mark North-West University identifies all our teaching, learning and research offerings or sub-brands. • Our pay-off line: “It all starts here®” The pay-off line of the University hints at a place where dreams begin - a place where you can visualise your aspirations and future success. It shifts the focus from the University as an institution to the stakeholders of the University and what the University means to them. 8 Faculties: Potchefstroom • Arts • Natural Sciences • Theology • Education Sciences • Law • Economic and Management Sciences • Engineering • Health Sciences 5 Faculties: Mafikeng • Agriculture, Science and Technology • Commerce and Administration • Education Sciences • Social Sciences • Law 2 Faculties: Vaal Triangle • Humanities • Economic Sciences and Information Technology NWU will foster engaged and caring staff and students and embed the following foundational values, based on the constitutional values of human dignity, equality and freedom: • Ethics in all endeavours • Academic integrity • Academic freedom and freedom of scientific research • Responsibility, accountability, fairness and transparency • Embracing diversity.

The official anthem of the North-West University was changed in 2011 and is sung in three languages, namely Afrikaans, English and Tswana. The North-West University’s Potchefstroom campus has a Student Representative Council (SRC) consisting of 15 members. Four members of the SRC of all three campuses (Vaal, Mafikeng and Potchefstroom) together form the Institutional Students Representative Council (ISRC). Every SRC member, except for the SRC chairperson, has an executive committee that manages the portfolio with that SRC member. This is a sub structure of the Students’ Council and any student of the NWU Potchefstroom campus can become part of the SRC sub structure by making himself/herself eligible for an Executive Committee (EC). Another sub structure of the SRC is the ASAs. ASA is the acronym for Academic Students’ Association and they deal with any academic query or complaint that students may have in their faculty. The NWU Potchefstroom campus has a total of 28 residences, six of which are town residences. There are 14 men’s and 14 women’s residences. Every residence has a House Committee (HC) in charge of residential activities. To serve as a student leader on any of the student leadership structures (EC, HC, ASA, SRC), you must maintain an index point of 65%. DURING ANY STUDENT’S STUDENT LIFE THERE IS A 24- HOUR “COMPLAINTS AND IDEAS LINE” THAT CAN BE SMS-ED. THE NUMBER OF THIS LINE IS 31750.

NWU PUK ALUMNI OFFICE The term or concept of “Alumni” merely refers to ex-students of an institution and the NWU PUK Alumni office tries to keep regular contact with its ex-students as they (also current students) are connected to their alma mater for life and are also the living evidence of the university’s quality and excellence. Among others, golf days, rallies and reunions are arranged for alumni as well as a farewell event for departing students. It is therefore important to make contact with you already in your first year. Communication with alumni occurs in many ways and ex-students can also keep their information updated here to receive communication: • Electronic newsletter called: “e-PUKaner” and also the magazine for NWU Alumni – “NWU & U” • Facebook (NWU-PUK Alumni) • By e-mail ([email protected]) • Mobi website (www.pukalumni.mobi/) • Website: www.nwu.ac.za under alumni
