All projects in this handbook are inspired by things that Ellie and her friends create in the book Ellie Engineer by Jackson Pearce. Try them at home with adult supervision, or get inspired by this handbook and make up your own projects!

Make your own

Water Balloon Launcher What You’ll Need • Hammer and nails

• An exercise band

• Power drill

• String

• 2 brooms

• Extra woodt

• A funnel

• Water balloons

Instructions 1. Get permission from an adult to use these materials 2. Nail the brooms together and use the extra wood to keep the whole thing together so it won’t tip over. Make sure it’s firmly planted in the ground. Use the string to tie the sides together. 3. Drill two holes in the top of each side of the funnel. Loop the exercise band through the funnel and tie each side to the launcher. 4. Give your launcher a fun name. Ellie names hers “The Water Empress.” 5. Fill a water balloon, put it in the funnel, pull back, and launch!

Instructions 1. Sketch out what you’d like your dog house to look like 2. Now draw it using precise lines 3. Add decorations and embellishments

What You’ll Need • A flat structure to build • Glue your structure on, like • Roofing Materials, such sturdy cardboard as cardboard shingles • Popsicle Sticks or some • Decorations: add extras other building material, like flowers, a fountain, or like clay even paint. Instructions 1. Roll up the magazines so they form a V 2. Tape the larger end of the V to the pencil cup 3. Scoop up the bugs with the shorter end of the V and trap them in the cups
