PROJECT PROPOSAL

Title of the project “Ask the flask”

Description The event will be held between students of primary

schools,

high

schools

and

university undergraduates. It is an online workshop, with students grouped according to their educational level (primary, high or university). Participants will be from countries facing water scarcity, as well as from countries with an abundance of water. They will communicate with each other and exchange views on their relationship with water in everyday life. How scarcity or abundance of water shape their lives, and how young people learn to manage water in such different cases. What is the future of water and how can we unite to face such a grim-looking future? Eventually, each group will create a visual artwork. The project “Ask the Flask” will take place within the framework of the “World Water Museum” installation by Keti Haliori.

Concept The flask symbolizes both the journey and the traveler in the desert; it is a symbol of the preservation of life under severe circumstances of water scarcity during a tough journey. Young people are the ones who will embark on this challenging journey. They will inherit a planet in danger, and will fight against global warming, desertification, water pollution, privatization, and the interests of multinationals etc. This work aims to foster relationships between the youth of societies abundant in water, on the one hand, and the youth of societies facing water scarcity, on the other. It aspires to carefully create a channel between them, so that participants

can communicate, gain experience, knowledge, understanding and set common goals. It aims to make them experience unity and friendship through water; to ask questions and form opinions; to feel like allies, not enemies. We are all inhabitants of our planetary neighborhood and therefore must drink from the same flask.

Proposed work - Motto Become an artist and save water through your art. - Methodology Groups will be partnered with another group within their level of education (primary, high schools or university level): one group from a region with water scarcity will work with another group from a region with abundance of water. Each group will select one member to be the coordinator. He or she will handle most of the communication with the other members as well as with the Supervising Team. One (or two) artists from the Supervising Team will be responsible for each pair of participants. They will handle all matters of communication, research, cooperation and progress of the work. They will be there to provide information and any necessary help, in order for the participants to comprehend the way they should work and create their visual artwork. Communication will take place via Skype discussion groups. Through these groups, members will be able to communicate and discuss, exchange views, submit their ideas, propose research methods, materials and ways to develop and promote their work. The goal is for every resulting artwork to bear the “stamp” of cooperation between the two groups. - Materials Basic material: performancei or installationii Support material: videos, photos, various materials, Skype discussions*, poetry, oral stories etc. * Talks through Skype will be part of the project.
