PROTECT YOUR BENEFITS FROM FRAUD AND IDENTITY THEFT

Identity theft is a serious crime. Identity thieves will try to steal your personal information in order to commit fraud, take your money, or for benefits. HRA and other government agencies will never call you directly to ask for your benefits information over the phone. Do not give callers your personal information, including EBT information. Keep your personal information in a secure place.

STOP IDENTITY THIEVES BY SAFEGUARDING YOUR INFORMATION

If you would like additional security for your card, you have 2 options:

PROTECT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Don’t carry your Social Security card in your wallet or write your Social Security number on a check. Give it out only if absolutely necessary or ask to use another form of ID.

TEAR UP FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS and paperwork with personal information before you discard them.

A PIN Restriction helps you protect your benefits from someone who may have access to your personal information. Additional Security Password: You have the option of placing an additional password on your EBT account. To make above request, please visit your local Job/SNAP center or call the toll free EBT Customer Service number at 1-888-328-6399.

PROTECT YOUR EBT CARD.

Keep your EBT card and Personal Identification Number (PIN) safe! Keep your PIN secret! If your EBT card is lost or stolen call 311 immediately.

Watch for suspicious activity in your EBT accounts by keeping track of your balance at all times, reviewing your statements, and looking for charges you did not make.

If you think you have been the victim of identity theft, file a police report. Stores and credit card companies may want proof of the crime. Please report suspicious activity to the Department of Social Services Fraud Hotline at (718) 722-8001
