Residents invited to take part in mental wellness workshops ST. PAUL — Local residents are invited to attend a new series of mental wellness workshops designed to teach new coping strategies and maximize wellness and resiliency for themselves and others. Addiction and Mental Health staff with Alberta Health Services (AHS) are leading four free workshops, which are open to everyone. Individuals, couples, friends and/or support networks are encouraged to attend and participate. The workshops are designed to teach participants about coping strategies for mental wellness, to enhance their understanding of addiction and mental health challenges, and how to support someone who is struggling. Each workshop focuses on one of four topics: anxiety, maintaining healthy relationships, depression and managing difficult emotions. Workshops are offered every second Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., cycling through all four topics during every eight-week period. The anxiety workshop offers education about identifying and managing anxiety, while providing practical approaches to dealing with the symptoms. The healthy relationships workshop helps participants improve communication skills and boundary setting. The depression workshop focuses on the basics of depression, including symptoms, and highlights coping skills. The managing difficult emotions workshop helps individuals learn basic strategies around emotional awareness and healthy expression. The upcoming session on April 5 will focus on depression. Registration is required but participants are welcome to attend some or all of the workshops. Please call 780-645-6346 for information about the location, or to register. Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. - 30 For media inquiries contact: Amy Crofts AHS Communications 780-830-3537
