• Become acquainted with editors of publications or e-zines that you actually read. We all have our favorite sources of information. If you find yourself frequently relying on certain resources, then it is very likely that many other people in your space also rely on the same sources. The editors and other parties that control the content of these publications are very accessible and often will provide you with direction for the type of content that they (or their bosses) are most interested in publishing. Get to know them. • Be interesting. Regardless of whether you are writing on a very narrow niche matter or the most mundane of regulatory matters, do your best to make the content interesting and relevant. Use real life scenarios and contemporary events as a source of article ideas and examples to illustrate your central thesis. • Co-author. As often as you can, try to co-author pieces with another practitioner in your business area, or better yet, with someone that works outside of your organization or your field of law. Multi-organization or multi-disciplinary collaboration often results in more interesting articles (for the authors and the readers of such articles).
