And now for the details Our solution Pulsant hosts Extrinsica Global’s 40 Dell Servers which use VMware and Microsoft’s Hyper-V virtualisation software to create a high availability cloud platform. Popular business productivity and collaboration software applications are delivered from the platform via the Internet using Citrix XenApp technology.

This arrangement provides a very cost-effective platform that can easily scale up and out. It also offers reduced operational costs through improved energy efficiency and its low physical footprint. “The Cloud concept of multi-tenancy allows smaller companies to access sophisticated and expensive capabilities that they wouldn’t be able afford to put in place themselves, making it commercially and operationally viable,” Simon confirms. Within the shared Cloud environment, however, service providers must also maintain stringent security. Extrinsica Global builds its infrastructure from the ground up and segregates each client’s data with highly secure technology to maintain data integrity. Simon adds, “Pulsant gives us the flexibility to do this while they provide the grid-independent power supplies, robust and fast connections, USPs and physical security that keeps our system and our customers’ data safe.”
Business results Extrinsica Global estimates that the benefit of its of Cloud hardware virtualization, gives it at least a 30 per cent overall reduction in costs. Customers experience even greater benefits from the Cloud environment. “A real advantage of our SaaS services is that while users can easily access their office applications and files, the data never leaves the data centre, even when they’re using it. All of the files they create are aggregated and stored centrally on our servers located at Pulsant’s securely protected data centres. This substantially reduces risk for our customers and ensures their data is secured on one platform and not fragmented across large numbers of individual devices and locations.” While some service providers operate their own data centres, Extrinsica Global sees no reason to consider moving from Pulsant.
