November 13, 2017 RE: Graduation Venue for the Class of 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians of Radnor High School Seniors, As you are aware, Villanova University is in the midst of a large scale construction project, and is not available to host any commencement ceremonies this year. As Villanova has been our typical location for commencement, Radnor High School staff members explored a number of alternative venue options for the Class of 2018. Last year, we had the opportunity to hold commencement exercises for the Class of 2017 at Temple University’s Liacouras Center. We heard many positive comments from parents and students about last year’s venue, however, we continued to explore other sites to provide a variety of options for our current seniors. For all options considered, the pros and cons of each venue were weighed, including seating capacity, distance from Radnor, amenities and costs. After gathering information, I called a meeting during the last week of September with the Senior RHS student government leaders, the Senior Class Sponsors, parent representatives for the Class of 2018, and the RHS Graduation Coordinators to discuss the options we had spent time researching. After getting feedback from this group, additional legwork has been done to ensure that graduation will be a positive experience for our graduates, their friends and families. With this information as background I am pleased to inform you that, pending approval at the Finance Committee meeting on Nov. 14 and at the Nov. 28 monthly School Board meeting, the commencement ceremony for the Radnor High School Class of 2018 is slated to be held at Temple University’s Liacouras Center on Wednesday, June 13 beginning at 4 p.m. The Liacouras Center is a state-of-the art, air-conditioned venue that eliminates possible weather concerns and has appropriate staging areas for our students. It has ample storage areas for graduation materials, adequate parking and can comfortably accommodate our anticipated audience so we do not need to limit the number of attendees. The Liacouras Center is also outfitted with appropriate technology to ensure that a high quality recording of commencement can be preserved. This venue falls within our budget for graduation. Its reservation ensures our graduates and their families can have peace of mind that the district has secured a venue that will provide them with a positive experience for the most important evening of their high school experience. The mission of the Radnor Township School District is to inspire in all students the love of learning and creating, and to empower them to discover and pursue their individual passions with knowledge, confidence, and caring to shape the future.

Most importantly, the staff at the Liacouras Center is knowledgeable about how to successfully run large events, including commencement ceremonies. Our experience last year was a positive one, and we are looking to improve upon last year’s the event for the Class of 2018, their families, and friends. Radnor High School administration and the Graduation Coordinators are confident that this venue will provide an outstanding experience for our graduates and their loved ones. The 4 p.m. start time allows for travelers to the ceremony to avoid rush hour traffic and also provides an opportunity for families to make post-graduation dinner reservations should they be inclined to do so. As with last year, to ensure that all students arrive safely and promptly to graduation, transportation will be provided from RHS to the Liacouras Center for the Class of 2018. Radnor High School will have a half-day the day of graduation for all students. Additionally, we will also provide transportation for our choral and band students who have traditionally performed at commencement. To enhance the experience, this year students will have the opportunity to take seated cap and gown poses in advance of commencement to ensure high quality graduation photos for those seniors and their parents who are interested. Additional information regarding graduation, including parking accommodations, transportation options for families, and cap and gown photos, will be forthcoming. We are dedicated to ensuring that this year’s commencement ceremony is a positive experience for all. We believe strongly that the Liacouras Center will provide our graduates, their families and their friends the type of commencement they expect and deserve. We look forward to sharing in this wonderful celebration with you and your children. Sincerely,

Dan Bechtold Principal Radnor High School
