Ramp Up a Hybrid Cloud Service to Archive Petabytes of Rich Media Content BulutBroker, a rising brand owned by Turkish cloud integrator Bulutistan, aims to be the second address for company data. When broadcasting and magazine group Dogus Media asked for archiving petabytes of rich media files in the cloud, BulutBroker experts looked for the best solution possible. By teaming with NetApp, they created a three-tiered service model with private and public cloud storage. It provides customers with freedom of choice, regulatory compliance, and a perfect entry to the hybrid cloud.

RAMPING UP A HYBRID CLOUD SERVICE BulutBroker needed a solution offering seamless integration with many different storage and data management products, on-demand scalability, and connectivity to public clouds and its own data centers in Istanbul and Izmir. After discussions with several vendors, BulutBroker teamed with NetApp to build an easy-to-implement archiving service. “We chose NetApp for its proven products, unique hybrid cloud approach, and quick deployment plan,” says Sarper Turkay, general manager at BulutBroker, and adds, “There was simply no alternative that could deliver on cloud integration, ease of management, efficiency, and security in the way NetApp does. And its team was of great help from consultancy to product training.” The architecture combines AltaVault, a cloud-integrated storage appliance for data protection; StorageGRID Webscale, purpose-built software for large data archives; and NetApp E-Series for data repository. Through inline deduplication, compression, and encryption, AltaVault facilitates
data transport and accelerates storage and retrieval. Customers only pay for terabyte consumption per month and without upfront costs. Service implementation is very simple and works with data from any source. “Our customer Dogus Media is very pleased with the solution,” says Turkay. “AltaVault did not only exceed the expectations, but resulted in new projects such as a mobile component. It will enable field staff to enrich their news broadcasts with videos directly from the cloud platform.” At the customer’s site, AltaVault serves as a local optimized disk cache. It captures, stores, and replicates archival data to cloud storage of choice. With BulutBroker, customers can leverage a threetiered service model, including hot cloud storage with AltaVault for instantly needed data, warm cloud storage with StorageGRID for data requiring continuous access or lower costs, or cold cloud storage at global cloud providers for data nonsensitive to compliance regulation. Data encryption and radio-link and point-to-point connections make data transfers secure and fast.
THE SECOND ADDRESS FOR COMPANY DATA Turkish companies prefer to own their primary IT environments, but the hybrid cloud is the place to be. “Data archiving is a perfect entry to the hybrid space. With our service based on AltaVault, we can bring many values to customers. They can eliminate the high cost of this mandatory task and the inconvenience of legacy technology. Because their data is stored in data centers in Turkey, they are fully compliant with legal and industry regulations. Additionally, they are free to add or change public cloud resources any time,” says Turkay. BulutBroker keeps exploring new services such as virtual server recovery enabled by AltaVault and AWS. Thus, the expert for cloud data protection and brokering constantly broadens its scope and delivers on its aim of being the second address for company data.
