DID YOU KNOW?

Our Union is SAVING Paper Jobs that are Threatened by Global Trade In recent years, foreign paper producers have systematically targeted our markets. Illegal imports are resulting in mills cutting back on production, product lines disappearing and even doors closing permanently. Our members see their hours cut and jobs destroyed. In this process, more proudly American-made products vanish from our store shelves. It’s not right. That’s why our union is challenging each and every threat to our jobs in ways that nobody else is. Whether it’s stopping bad trade deals or making sure that every trade law on the books is vigorously enforced, our union is defending our livelihoods. We have made a significant investment of time, effort and resources. We get the best legal support, provide compelling testimony, enlist the help of lawmakers, collaborate with impacted companies and more to build solid cases that will keep our members working. We’ve built expertise, so that even in this broken system, we’ve won cases that have saved the jobs of thousands of USW paper workers. Sometimes this work is very public. Other times, it takes place outside of the spotlight. And, once we win, it’s not over. As tariffs near their expiration and foreign producers line up ships destined for our shores, we fight again. In fact, right now we’re making the case to keep tariffs going on coated paper. We won this case five years ago, saving countless Steelworker jobs and communities, and we’re not stopping. Here’s where you come in. These fights involve many fronts to be successful. Our most powerful voice is always a Steelworker who can make these technical cases personal. It’s our jobs. It’s our products. It’s our communities. That’s why it’s critical that our members realize what is happening. We’ll soon be asking for help from our paper locals in a case involving the kind of paper that’s used for making copies. Until then, please share this important information and get ready to act. Together we’ll keep our workplaces going, making sure that our proudly-made products are here for generations to come. We’ve saved thousands of jobs so far, and until our broken system is fixed, we’ll keep fighting for each and every job that’s threatened.
